I wanted to export music from my son?s mp3 (music that he downloaded from his computer), but when i try to open the file on my computer there's nothing there. Do I need to install the software? If so, can I download it from the internet?
These gadgets are all new to me. Hope some one can help! THANK YOU ;)
You shouldn't need to install anything else. If you go into the options on the mp3 player and change the USB settings (there are only like 2 settings)... I forget which one is the one you want, but it will make it show up when you go to My Computer and you can simply copy and paste songs from it like you would from a normal folder.

MP3 players can only play music files in mp3 file format. You can download mp3 music files from the Internet to your computer and then copy them to your MP3 player using the USB cable. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs to mp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and then copy them to your MP3 player after you have connected the USB cable to the MP3 player and the computer. You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player will create a MP3 music file for each music track. iTunes is always the best tool for us to transfer music from iPod to computer or from computer to iPod, but for the situation of transferring music from iPod to new computer with iTunes is really difficult.
But there are some ways can help us to achieve it, like belows. http://support.apple.com/kb/hT1329
Use Microsoft's Windows Media Player to put your music on to the player..
Turn on your computer, click on windows media player and plug your MP3 player in and the computer and Windows Media Player should recognize the player and allow you to download music to it.
The easy way to delete the music/files/pictures on your player is to:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hook up your mp3 player to your computer Go to your desktop and double left click on "My Computer" When it opens you will see listing that says "Devices with Removal Storage" your mp3 player should be listed there. Right click on your mp3 player, and a window will open, right click on "Open" and now your files/songs should be visible. Hold the left click down and drag it across all the files/songs that you do not want this will highlight the files/songs you do not want, release, right click and then click on "Delete" Now your mp3 player should be clear of the files/songs you do not want. Be careful and do not delete files needed to operate your MP3 player.

You will first need to delete all the music from your MP3 player that you put on it.
Use this method to do that:
Hook up your mp3 player to your computer
Go to your desktop and double left click on "My Computer"
When it opens you will see listing that says "Devices with Removal Storage" your mp3 player should be listed there.
Right click on your mp3 player, and a window will open, right click on "Open" and now your files/songs should be visible.
Hold the left click down and drag it across all the files/songs that you do not want this will highlight the files/songs you do not want, release, right click and then click on "Delete"
Now you mp3 player should be clear of the files/songs you do not want.
BE CAREFUL AND DO NOT DELETE THE FILES NEEDED TO OPERATE YOUR MP3 PLAYER.

I tunes is an AAC format, it will not work with your player...
You need WMA format to make the songs work on the GPX-MW3836
What you can do is covert the songs from ACC to WMA using a format converter.
Then put them in a folder/file and drag and drop them to the player, or download the songs to Windows Media Player after you have converted them and then download them to your player, as Windows Media Player is WMA format.

You can download a free format converter at this website:

Good Luck, I hope this helped
