I just bought a 15" e-machines LCD monitor, and I'm not sure what I need to hook it up to my tower. The Monitor cable has 3 rows of 5 pins, and my tower only seems to have slots for two rows of 5 pins.....I went to Best Buy and Radio Shack, and neither of them seem to have any clue what I'm talking about.
Could the connecter with 2 rows be a DB9? Does it look like this? If not, can you describe in detail what it looks like?

It sounds like you have a DVI cable on your monitor. (See attached picture) If you go into radioshack ask them for a DVI to VGA connector. http://www.amazon.co.uk/2m-DVI-TO-VGA-CABLE/dp/B000K5O1M8 Let me know if the picture looks like the cable you have on your monitor. M

Can you do a search on Google images for "vga Connector" and let me know if you see a picture that is the same as your monitor.
Or are you able to take a picture and email it to me?

It looks like you have a DVI Video Card.
If you go to radio shack and ask them for this:

You have VGA monitor connector and you have a DVI video card.

Normally when an LCD monitor goes black, it is because the inverter goes out (which essentially is the backlighting). To verify this problem, hold a flashlight up to the monitor while it is turned on and see if you can "see" the picture. If this is the case, it could be repaired, but realistically, the cost to replace it might be cheaper (and you would probably end up with a larger monitor to boot).

SOURCE: Monitor power light blinks blue but does not power on
if the screen was fryed the fuse would of blew which means there would be no lights at all.. the best thing you can do is plug your screen into another pc to see if anything happens.. if nothing happens then yeah your screen must of messed up somewhere.. but if your screen works on another computer then your graphics card config cant be right somewhere along the line

Sort of like that - the shape of the pins is kind of rhomboid, though, and there's only 5 pins across....although I'm fairly certain that the monitor says "VGA" on that part....
That's it exactly. I guess the one with only two rows is DVI?
Sorry - I don't remember clearly the connectors on the tower - just that it was 2 rows, but not how many pins were part of each....
