Connector hose inside dehumidifier leaks

We purchased a connector hose from Sears. The connection inside the dehumidifier (not the external connection to the hose that goes to the drain) leaks, so the bucket below fills - not what we want to happen. We can't seem to tighten the connection enough so there is no leakage.

I have a 25-pint Frigidaire dehumidifier. I can't get a tight fit for the drain hose on the inside connection. The result is that water goes into the bucket rather than out through the drain hose. I've tried several different hose washers, but none help to make a secure connection.

Where does the plastic tube hookup to drain directly into a sump pump?

  • drpankajgarg Apr 21, 2009

water keeps filling in the bucket despite the hose connection.

The problem is that the plastic tube with the hose connection on one end does not have a water-tight fit to the other plastic pipe inside the unit and thus leaks. There should be another or better o-ring. I'm going to try a rubber band and see if that works.

The hose connection nipple is smaller than the garden hose-connector and leakes. Do I need a special hose or will putting plumbers tape on the nipple stop the leak?

No, that would probably leak too. What you need to do, is go to your local hardware store or home center (Plumbing Dept) and purchase a female to male connector. The female end is to connect to the unit's male hose connection and the other (Male) end, needs to be the same size for garden hose connection. Make sure that you use an appropriately sized washer for the Female end.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

How is the external tube for draining outside connected to the dehumidifier. Does the tube insert into the right angle nipple, then the threded end conected to a drain hose?

No. The tube inserts straight into the drain hole. Follow the 4 sets below.

1. Connect a garden hose to the threaded drain hose connector.
2. Remove the drain-hole cover.
3. Push hose connector tightly into the drain-hole on Rear Grille.
4. Press the hose down and make sure the "Arrow" on the tab is pointing upward.

NOTE:
The hose attachment will accept a standard garden hose fitting. Do not over tighten the hose when
connecting it to the hose connector, use a rubber washer and tighten by hand firmly without stripping the plastic threads. Be sure the hose lays flat and has no kinks, as it will not drain properly.

My dehumidifier runs over or leaks is there a way to plug into a hose to see if that takes care of the problem

If you purchased the dehumidifier new, it would have come with a part called a connector drain hose. This part is a long plastic tube with threads on one end to accept a hose. The part simply slides into the rear of the machine (with the threads of the part facing the rear). If you dont have the connector drain hose, it's part number is 5214A20027B and you can easily order it online for less than $10.

When hose is attached, bucket fills up

yes: hose allowed the bucket to be bypassed yes: bucket was there only for the switch to power can you pass a finger through the hole where the hose connected? probably not, right? most of these buckets have a knockout area inside the hose connection. Try prying it out or even drilling it out if required. remember that once you remove hose, you must purchase a plug hose end connector to continue bucket only useage.
