Microwave makes sound like something moving inside

This Microwave is installed in an RV. When it is plugged in it squeaks like something is moving. Upon removal of the top cove there is a door on both sides of the microwave that is constantly rotating. How do I fix this.

  • Anonymous Jun 19, 2013

The noise begins when the microwave is plugged in. It is not cooking, it is just plugged into the wall.

Follow this steps and use the VOM , and fix it. God bless you

  1. MagnetronIf your microwave is emanating high pitched or growling noises during operation, the magnetron could be going bad. Normally a nearly silent part, the magnetron uses high voltage and induces the frequency required to cook food. Although normally not a safety hazard to operate, this is a sign that the magnetron is failing and will need to be replaced as soon as possible.
  2. Exhaust fan motorIf your microwave is making a very loud humming noise during operation, it could possibly be the exhaust fan motor. If defective the part will need to be replaced to silence the appliance once more.
  3. Stirrer motorAnother leading cause of a noisy microwave is an expired stirrer motor. With use this part becomes worn and makes a loud grinding noise, which is usually a leading indicator that the part needs to be replaced. The stirrer is a metal blade that is slowly turned by the motor. This action disperses the microwave energy in a random pattern, which heats the food evenly. If the stirrer motor is determined to be nearing expiration, it should be replaced to halt the grinding noise.
  4. Turntable motorA very common cause for a noisy microwave is a worn out turntable motor. This is a relatively easy repair and will put an end to the noise once replaced.

SOURCE: GE over the range microwave making grinding noise

This sounds like the stirrer. If it sticks or stops, the microwaves can damage or destroy it. You may have a bad stirrer or magnetron. There is an important bulletin that covers these problems. To see if yours is covered, see: http://207.234.249.73/mwd/ge_mw_mag_kit_bulletin.pdf If you need more help, please follow-up.

My microwave ge space maker 1400xl will not work and or turned on please help !

If your GE Spacemaker XL 1400 microwave oven is not turning on, there are a few things you can do to diagnose the problem and try to remedy it. First, unplug the microwave oven and plug it back in again to supply power back to the oven after a power surge. Second, make sure the door is firmly shut as the oven does not operate unless the door is completely closed. Third, check the breaker box to make sure the switch associated with your microwave oven is not flipped to the "Off" position. Finally, press and hold the "Clear/Off" button on the front panel if the "Locked" message appears on the display. If none of these steps work, then the problem could be anything from a defective control circuit board or a burned out magnetron tube. Either fix is quite expensive and you'll have to evaluate the cost of repair versus the cost of replacing the microwave oven.

Sharp Carousel Microwave Mdl 1875 for our RV is dead

>> We also tried plugging our toaster into the microwave plug outlet, and the toaster wouldn't work in that outlet, but worked just fine in a different outlet in the RV.

This means the outlet you plug your microwave into needs to be fixed in addition to fixing the oven. Breaker? Fuse?

>> I understand from another RV forum that microwave ovens for RVs have "special circuitry and cooling features" not found in regular countertop ovens for household use.

Not really in my experience. Any microwave supplied with clean AC power and proper venting space will be fine.

But I'd bet your microwave can be fixed affordably.

The main internal things which can result in this model being dead (no display, no light when you open the door, no beep when you press a pad on the keypad) would be the 20A fuse and the magnetron temperature fuse. There could also be bad connections on the noise filter board.

Also, sometimes a power surge can cause the power to be interrupted to the low voltage transformer on the board, and I regularly repair those boards. I can also write a technical statement to your insurance company or to an RV park as needed.

At my Web site, I have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

The relevant service manuals for this model are here and here.

You can order Sharp parts from Sears or Encompass.

Contact me directly if you need more help.

OC, Over current

99% of the time you have over current with a Microwave, it is typically the Magnatron, then the HV transformer, as first suspect. If you plugged the unit directly into the wall outlet it would probably blow a fuse. The Magnatron is the large item that makes the Microwaves.

You are speaking of an Inverter so you probably have the Microwave in an RV. RV Microwaves are typically expensive because they fit in small places and it you may want to have it repaired.

Frigidaire microwave not heating over the range

Hello

Try to cook something simple such as microwave popcorn. If the unit does not light up or turn on, check the outlet with another appliance to make sure the outlet is functioning correctly.

Check the fuses or circuit breakers in you house. If the outlet does not work after testing it with another appliance, try to plug the microwave in a different outlet.

Check the hinges and door hooks to make sure the door is closing properly. Look to see whether a small piece of food is clinging to the door, preventing it from closing all the way. Check the release mechanism and the rotating plate to make sure they can move freely as well.

Plug in the microwave and start it a the bag of microwave popcorn inside. If the lights go on but it is not producing heat, listen and try to hear whether the unit sounds the way it usually does. If it does not, there might be problems with the circuit board. This will need to be repaired by a certified Frigidaire professional.

Check the display that shows the time and power. If the display is flickering but it does not alter the operation of the microwave, it is not a problem. If, however, the lights flicker and your food is not heating, there may be a problem in the microwave cabinet.

Listen for buzzing sounds. If there is a buzzing sound and no heat is being produced, you may have to get a new magnetron, power diode, or high-voltage capacitor. These can be purchased from a Frigidaire retailer.

Look at the handle on the door. The most common complaint about all models of the Frigidaire microwave, according to Consumeraffairs.com, was cracked or broken door handles. Frigidaire will replace faulty handles while the oven is under warranty. In many cases, they will replace the handle even after the warranty expires for a "reasonable" amount of time.

The motor is starting to squeak. From using it last week and again today it is getting louder and the housing is very warm. Thank you!

if the motor you hear squeaking is the internal fan (not the vent fan if it has one) then that will have to be replaced or lubed. if that fan stops working then the magnetron will be damaged very quickly ... servicing inside the microwave is a bit dangerous ... make sure it is always unplugged anytime the cover is off ... the voltage and current inside is potentially fatal .while its plugged in ... if the internal fan is slowing down then the magnetron will get very hot. .. if you are handy you can re-lube the magnetron cooling fan by removing the cabinet (unplugged of course) ... use a lite machine oil or oil designed for very small motors .. don't use teflon oil or WD40 .. good sewing machine oil is ok ... make sure the plastic mounting for the fan is ok and not warped or cracked ... make sure the fan blade doesn't touch anything and turns freely .. if you are not mechanically inclined then you might get an estimate for repairs .. often a new microwave costs less than repairs to an old one ..

Microwave heats intermittently

Doug, not not attempt repairs on your m/wave unless you have had training.
When you take off the cover even with the plug turned off, their is still charge inside the m/wave which could kill you!
sounds like the magnetron may be faulty, get your approved engineers to carry out a' power check' on the magnetron etc,

Hotpoint Microwave Mod. # RVM1435WD001 Stopped warming

I just had the same problem with my over the range microwave in my RV. I took the unit out, took the cover off to expose the inside and found that the magnatron was fried (where the wires plug into the magnatron, the plastic shield was melted). I ordered a new one from repairclinic.com for 126.00. It was very easy to install, only one screw held it in.

Microwave stopped working

Generally, you get something unless the fuse inside is blown. There is generally a fuse inside the unit when you remove the button package. First, make sure that the outlet you have is good. Plug something else into it and see that it works.
