I had this problem on my A639 after going on holiday with it (I think
the x-ray scanners did something to it). It started switching itself off
more and more as the days went by until one day it went off and never
came back. After resetting it, it just stayed on the blue "ASUS Rock
Solid Heart Touching" screen. I was worried that it was totally broken
and I'd have to pay to get it repaired, but after searching the internet
it turned out all I needed to do was re-flash the ROM with a fresh copy
(I used the latest ROM). It now works fine and no longer turns itself
off... didn't cost me ANYTHING to fix :-)

This just happened to me today. My notebook is the same model. I was logging into a game and all of a sudden it blue screened. After that every time I restarted it would go to the Asus logo screen (I think that's what is referred to as the splash screen but could be wrong). No keys worked. Nothing I could do. So, I called Asus and they had me unplug the power, take out the battery and hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Now it's fine. Apparently it just needed to be reset. I hope that helps. Good luck.
You can simply follow the first 3 steps of this (http://iris.nyit.edu/oit/academic/FAQ/faq/2wireless/20026/20026.pdf) tutorial. After that, you should see your home wifi name in the list (as in the photo in the tutorial.). You should first connect to a network from this list (possibly with a wifi password), then it should connect automaticly evertime you swtich on wifi. After you have successfully connected to a wifi, you should see the wifi icon changes in the task bar. Hope this helps.
how the hell do u forget your password???? it's usally set to ask u eevrytime u turn it on... unless u hav never turned it off since u got it (highly doubt that considering how unrealieble these devices are at standby mode). by best advice for u is to try every combination that u would usually put on as a password (ie- bank PIN., birthday, phone PIN, computer password, hotmail password ect)
My Asus A639 is also frozen on the blue Heart of Technology screen AGAIN. None of the buttons work, hold button is not active, cannot switch it off. The first time it was fixed by Asus under warrantee - took 5 weeks. The freeze might be related to using GPS software Copilot V6 - not certain.
