To reset passwords for Feature 983 do the following
Press Feature 985
Press 9
Enter 73738767793
Press OK
Now go back to Feature 983
Enter 120000 for 2-digit extensions, 1020000 for 3-digit or 10020000 for 4-digit
1) Feature 983, Log 120000, mBox, Change, enter mBox #(i.e.-24), hold Reset....
this changes current password to default password 0000 for mBox #(i.e.-24).
Next....
2)Feature 981, Other (do not enter password, instead go to "Log"), now enter the mBox # (i.e.-24) plus default password 0000 (i.e.-240000).
Next....
3) Follow voice prompt to change password (cannot start with #0), Re-enter new password (i.e.-246810), Say name clearly, Play name back, if satisfied then OK.
Next....
4)When accessing mBox, Feature 981, Other (shows "Log"), enter mBox # plus new password (i.e.-24246810), this is how you will now access your mBox.
I feel Nortel should provide a higher level of customer service and at least provide public files of their user manuals/guides. This is poor business, and I am shocked so many businesses deal with it.
I have tried this and and at login I put 1020000- I have 3-digit extension and it prompts for password. Everything I put said invaild password. Then I got locked out. Can anyone help me? Please. I was trying to reset the password, now I'm completely locked out! Help!!
If you have a phone admin, contact him/her. If not, what type of voicemail system do you have? For example, "Nortel Norstar Voice Mail 4.0". On our voice mail (version listed above), each mailbox is assigned a maximum number of incorrect password attempts. The voice mail system records the number of incorrect attempts from the last time the mailbox was accessed successfully. Once the number has been reached, the mailbox is locked out and cannot be opened again until the password is reset by the administrator.
Feature 983 log in is 120000 (if 2 digit extension, 1020000 if 3 digit, 10020000 if 4 digit extensions)
Select Mbox, enter that locked extensions mail box number, You will see password RESET. Select RESET. Release out. This will reset that mail box password to 0000. Use feature 981 on that phone and enter the new default password of 0000. you will then be prompted to change the password.

i tried that and it will not work. it still says it is locked
I work in an office environment where one of the phone mailboxes is locked and is asking to contact administrator. I have no idea where the administration phone is located. Can you tell me how I find out which phone this is and what I then do to reopen the mailbox.
Can it be opened from another extension?
I have tried the feature 981 and the feature 983 but this is showing as inactive feature

I have tried the 120000 since i have a two digit and it says invalid password. I have also tried each of the other ones as well (ex. 1020000, 10020000) Can anyone help?
Urghh I reset the admin password and then forgot to initiate it so now im locked out of the mailbox and the admin mailbox most importantly. None of these solutions work for me. SOME ONE HELP!!!!
I am having the same problem as everyone else. We have 2 mailboxes that are "locked" in our office, and I have tried many different approaches to solving this issue. I am the system administrator and have all the Logs and Passwords for all phones.
- When I reset the password from the system admin, it shows it was reset but when I try to open voicemail from that extension, it still says "locked. contact admin"
- I have tried to follow the directions posted here as a solution (4 steps), but have only managed to get in the voicemail of that extension in a roundabout way. When I try to access voicemail normally, it still says "locked"
- The voicemail is not activated when I call into the company number and dial their extension, although I was able to record a personal greeting
- I tried deleting and then adding the extension through the system admin, then resetting the password again to no avail
Any help provided would be extremely appreciated! : )
