Hello, I just open the box containing the above printer on Sunday. Well, I have been experiencing nothing but problems with this damn printer. I tried reinstalling the software but to no avail! The printer just won't behave at all and I am tempted to send it straight back to the vendor who sold it to me. PLEASE HELP Sean

    Hello Lilacgerry,

I sent the printer back as I was becoming increasingly frustrated with all the problems that I was having with this printer. I now have a brand new printer which I have yet to test. Thanks for your help which I really appreciate.

    Kind regards

Ok, take 10 deep breaths. You have all the cards in your hand because it is new and you still have the receipt (please tell me you kept the receipt!) This is your last option and you are fully entitled to return it. First uninstall it completely. Turn it off and unplug everything and start again. Plug all back in, checking as you go that all cables are connected correctly and all parts are where they should be. Now, put the disc in for the printer as if to install, but dont't install it, when it runs hit cancel when it gives you this option. Now, make a back p copy of this disc using a burner. Now install the printer with this disc and post back here if it now runs ok.

I am getting error message 5100....can't locate the manual...Any ideas? Thanks!

Error 5100 indicates "carriage jam". The carriage is the assembly that contains the print-head and ink cartridges. This error can be difficult to solve because various things can cause it.

Make sure the ink cartridges and print-head are installed properly. Remove them and re-seat them.

Check the gears as best you can for any obstructions.

If the carriage moves to a center position when you open the cover as if to change cartridges, try a reset to clear the error message :

1. Turn off printer (use button, don't unplug)
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.
8. Your printer should respond as normal

Sometimes you have to try this a couple of times, if you've never done it before. If this does not work, unplug, wait 3-4 minutes, then re-plug in.

Printer Error message : Printer Error has occurred. 6000

Error 6000 gets displayed when there is a paper jam or other general malfunction. When the message "6000 Printer error has occurred. Turn off the printer then back on again. If the problem persists, see the manual." Is displayed, something may block the paper feed tray from opening.
If the printer is surrounded with documents or when you copy large documents such as books, make sure that you secure the clear space in front of the tray before printing / copying. When the error message above is displayed and if you find something is in front of the tray, remove it. Then, turn OFF the printer and back ON again and the printer will be ready for printing.
If you still have the trouble, contact the repair service.

Check the printer for any paper jam or try to reset the printer to release memory code errors.

1. Press and hold the Resume button for 1 - 2 minutes.
2. Open the cover.
3. Remove the cartridge and then reinstall it.
4. Close the cover.
5. Turn Off the printer.
6. Turn On the printer.

dear,
Error 5100 points to a "carriage jam"
The carriage is the assembly that contains the printhead and cartridges.
This error can be difficult to solve because various things can cause it.

Since this is a new printer, maybe there is some packing or packing tape that is obstructing the carriage.
Verify that the carts and printhead are installed properly.

Check the gears as best you can for any obstructions.

If the carriage moves to a center position when you open the cover as if to change cartridges, try a reset to clear the error message :

Turn on printer and light continues to flash. Not

What the flashing light means
The Power light can flash for several reasons:

• The printer cover is open.
• The printer is out of paper.
• A problem exists with the printer, such as a paper jam or a problem with a print cartridge.

If an error message appears
Read the error message that explains the problem and its solution.

If no error message appears
Check the status of the printer by using the printer tools. To gain access to the tools, open the Printer Properties dialog box, click the Services tab, and then click the Service this device button.

Use the printer tools to perform the following tasks:
• View estimated ink levels.
• Clean the print cartridges.
• Calibrate the printer.
• Print a test page.
• Perform other functions as needed.

Paper jam paper jam error message continues even no jam, have to feed by hand sever times before paper will feed into printer.

try this
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.

Canon S 520 doesn`t print

Two flashes: Out of paper, paper jam or paper feed error

button.

Three flashes: Paper jam
If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam, replace the paper in the printer
correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

Four flashes: Empty ink tank
One of the ink tanks is empty. Replace it.

Six flashes: No print head installed
Install a print head.

Seven flashes: Defective print head
Remove and reinstall the print head.
Also, ensure that the protective tape has been removed. If reinstalling the print head
does not resolve the problem, replace it with a new one.

Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full
The printer has a built-in waste ink tank for the ink used during print head cleaning. Eight
flashes indicates that the waste ink tank is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL
button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink tank
becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative to have the waste ink
tank replaced. Canon recommends to call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once
the waste ink tank becomes completely full, printing will be no longer
possible.
