When I turn on my video camera first there is a message Sony Infolithium System, and then instead of being able to record or standby, I get a yellow triangle in the centre of the picture and a message at top right C:31:23
There is also a hand at left showing to the right.
Thank you

Re:
Solution 1:
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.
solution 2:
Turn off the camcorder.
Remove the battery or disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds.
Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter.
Turn on the camcorder.
If the error message appears, service may be required.
If your camcorder still shows the same error code, then you'll have to send in your camcorder for service
additional info that might help:
According to the manual, the error code C:31:xx:xx means an error that
>the owner can fix by himself has occured and that by taking out the
>cassette and replacing it or by disconnecting the battery pack and
>fixing it back should solve the problem.
Error "23" means: "S reel emergency during normal rotation",
i.e. the problem is with the tape deck mechanism and specifically
the supply reel.

It means the camera has detected that the battery is not genuine or not compatible. sony batteries has the data chip that provides the 'info' in infolithium.
when I opened up the camera, the tape part of the cassette was hanging out. I tightened the tape and reinserted the cassette. this seems to have fixed the problem. hope this helps.
That is my "Welcome" screen. Mine beeps also. After the beep, I record or doing whatever i need to do. Maybe you're trying to start it faster than it requires (in other words, slow down).
According to Sony, the 31 problem is one that requires a power reset of the camera. Turn off the camera, remove the battery, remove the AC adapter if it is in use and then wait several minutes before re-attaching the battery and/or power and turning the camera on again. The 23 problem is a non-Sony InfoLithium battery. Apparently these smart batteries interact with the camera. According to Sony: "Replace the battery in the camcorder with a Sony® InfoLithium battery or connect the supplied AC power adapter."
error 31 is some kind of a problem with the cassette compartment, it's either won't eject it right now, or it's stuck otherwise. try to eject, if doesn't work, try "reset" button, if still no luck, replace the cassette compartment
