I have an AVIC-N1 installed in my truck and never had any issues with it. However after the truck was put in storage because I went overseas, the place I had it at let the battery drain and held no charge. When I got the truck back, it now displays "Mechanism Error" along the bottom and tells me to insert the correct disc. The only disc I have is is the NAV disc, however the HU won't take the disc. AD-GA10: Offset installation kit that allows your unit to be installed a further 10mm recessed into the dash. Check to ensure proper rear clearance (depth) behind the unit before installing this kit. Hope that helps. Good luck with it
If the Avic was installed in a tight housing it will put pressure on the sliding mechanism for the screen. Its as if you put pressure down on the top of the housing, it wont slide out. These Avics and other players are sensitive to pressure, so tell an installer or someone with experience to relieve the pressure of the pioneer avic housing. If that doesnt do it then it is probably a mechanical problem or small electrical issue. Sometimes a faulty ground or weak power connection will cause this, but i am sure it has to do with pressure on the housing.
just got a tech bulletin from pioneer in my bulk mail(almost trashed it). they said its a recall on all avicn1 and 2's. the ribbon wire going from unit to screen fails after many cycles. they are issuing free repair.

The original Avic N1 only needed to have the parking brake wire grounded for video in motion. Then, the latter series came out and on the underside of the in-dash unit, they have a foil sticker that needed to be removed and a jumper carefully soldered on the circuit board. Avic N2's had a switch installed under this sticker to avoid people from making soldering mistakes. I think the N2 brain may be looking for an N2 unit and giving you trouble. more info on this subject is available @ www.avic411.com.
It is a common issue for the Avic N series. If it is out of warranty then the guy on Ebay will fix it for you for around $100. Try SAME DAY AUDIO SERVICE, his name is Rick and he is very reliable. Goodluck.
