Panasonic DMC-TZ1 Won't turn on

My Panasonic camera is exactly one year old and has worked fine until yesterday. I started out with a full battery, used it a few times during the day to shoot about a dozen photos. When I tried to review the photos that night, the camera wouldn't power up. I've tried charging the battery, but no luck. I tested the battery with a voltmeter and it reads 4.15 volts (+ and - terminals or + and T terminals) so the battery appears fine. Is there any reset function not listed in the owner's manual?

I contacted Panasonic and described the problem in detail. The customer service tech didn't offer any advice. he suggested I send it to them for repair at a flat rate of $165 plus shipping. Since I bought the camera from Costco prior to their new 90-day return policy than began in February 2007, I contacted them. They shipped the camera no-charge to United Radio Service in New York, who then sent it off to Panasonic. Got it back after six weeks and the work order said they replaced the main PC board, but it still didn't work! Costco has since refunded my full purchase price and I bought the Panasonic DMC-TZ3 for $60 less.

same problem. DMC-tz1 won't turn on. totally dead. tried 2 good,
charged batteries but nothing happens. camera worked then it didn't.
no apparent reason. maybe a design flaw. probably an expensive throw
away model from panasonic because it's too expensive to

same problem. can't turn it on. it was fine then not working for no obvious reason. i think it's a faulty panasonic design. or bad parts. can't be fixed except for more than price of a new camera. was a nice camera for a short time but junk now.

Definitely have the same problem. Bought it in August 2006, and just died last week, over the course of about a week.

It was great while it lasted but it's time to buy a new camera and I'm pissed.

Wont turn "ON" I have 2 batteries, they are good per voltage reading...

Best Buy had it 3 weeks for the problem to resolve, came back unresolved. They have a very bad reputation,I dont want anything to do with them anymore.Have a 4 year service contract with them, they wont allow me to ship it to them, to drive to deliver it is 140 miles round trip, the cost is prohibitive to travel, already have spent more than that on gas....

Is this problem resolvable at a reasonable price ? this camera is only 1 1/2 years old.

    Please advise..Thankyou [email protected]

Mine will power up and LCD works, but none of the other button work... can't take picture, zoom, use menu or any other button. About 1 year old

Im a home inspector by trade and I love the pic's the TZ1 takes, untill one day on the job the screen froze, so I pulled the battery and would not turn on when I replaced the battery. I tapped the side of the camera a few times and then it came on, so it finished the job I was on. Next job, the camera did not want to turn on, so I tapped the sides again, nothing, cleaned the battery contacts with a pencil eraser, and replaced the battery with a spare. It worked, great. next job the camera wont turn on at all with any battery, or hitting or kicking. Time for the TZ5.

Yes... has same problem. Just bought it today and not working. Totally pissed

The same problem - won't turn on, began suddenly one week after warranty expiry date. In the beginning I thought it was a temperature problem, it turned on after being warmed up, but now it is completely finished.
Such a pity - I will never buy a camera anymore from optics no name companies. Now I have a Pentax K200D - something completely different!
The trick with pressing the shutter button while turning on didn't work.

I sent the camera DMC-TZ! to Panasonic in Chicago,of course they wont honor Best Buy's service contract. They quoted $126.00 to fix it.This camera and accessories has cost $581.00 +.already.+ $75.00 infuel to deliver and P.U. from Best buy.
So,I am not interested in spending anymore on this "WHITE ELEPHANT"
Seems that there would be a legal way to take action against Best Buy if people would stick together into a class action suit.
In due respect, every one complains about the problems but no one is willing to take steps "UNIFIED" to get action..
What do you think ?????

If you need parts there is a guy in South Carolina that has used parts. I got an LCD for $49.00 and it works like new. I think his email is [email protected]

Camera will not turn on

Try taking out the battery, then putting it back in. Also consider using a replacement battery to see if that's the issue. Your problem might be addressed in the user manual for the device:

What is the highest capacity memory card that I can use in my Panasonic DMC-TZ1?

Assuming you're using SD cards, they top out at 2GB. Cards larger than 2GB are SDHC and they will not work in the DMC-TZ1. So, you may use SD cards up to 2GB in size.
