While watching tv the other morning by tv's convergence seemed to instantly go haywire. the red is way off target...way more than can be fixed by the convergence feature on the menu. there are red ghost images about an inch off plus a red band going through the picture. I live in the middle of nowhere Arizona so any help is especially appreciated.
thanks

If you have the original remote to that tv, click on menu, then select set up from the on screen menu, then select convergence. you might see auto convergence as well as manual for blue and red convergence.
If you see Auto, select it, this will line up your tubes.
If no auto convergence, you will have to select each one, and follow the instructions to aline your tubes.
Guns or CRT are probably ok. Your TV needs a convergence IC STK392-120 replacement. Lamp are used on LCD and DLP rear projection TV's. Color wheel are for DLP's. :)
Sony TVs generate an error code. The front panel LED (red) will flash anywhere from one to eight times which can isolate the problem circuit. It is not always accurate.
If you have a test meter which can read DC voltages and resistance in ohms, you can locate the problem area. If you lack the expertice to do so, contact a sony authorized servicer. If you have the ability, start by checking fuses on the "G" board ( power supply board) and the "D" board or deflection board.
A major problem area in this TV is the convergence circuit. There are six fuses around the convergence output ICs on the "D" board.
You have what is known as covergence problems. Ok to begin with. 1 Go into customer menus goto SETUP do you have the "CONVERGENCE" option. If you do not the the likelyhood is you have the fl231 fuse problem and if you can solder and get it i recomend it a simple repair. ok if you have that option then try going in and autoconvergening if that didnt work try manual the red and blue convergence. if in the manual red and blue the crosshair didnt move then you probably have convergence power board problem if only one moved or just move a up and down or left of right then it might be a amp board issue. the other problems it could need a simple factory alignment.
Jennifer, adjusting it won`t fix it, the convergence IC`s have failed, major job to get them out and unless you have tv tech skills with soldering equipment and volt meter you`ll have to call a tech for this one , sorry to be the bearer of bad news, BMW Rider
red convergence went haywire... you need to relace I'm thinking two convergence ICs mounted on heatsink on convergence panel. replace both for usually they both blow replace any burnt resitors too, and hardest of all now you need to reconverge the whole thing.....which is a fine art.....u might be able to do it with the remote ...but u need a manual to go throught the steps really ..but not me i do em in my sleep.
take it to shop unless your technical.
This sounds as if one of your convergence IC's has shorted out. There should be 2 large black IC's on a heat sink, probably labeled STK392-040. There is a small fuse next to each IC that looks like a small resistor. The IC that controls red-red-half green is bad, leaving the blue where it should be. Replace that IC and its fuse and your picture should return to normal.
