Question about Sony KV-35S36 35" TV

1 Answer

TV shuts off and red standby/timer lights blinks red until I power the set off. When it shuts down it does so with a very loud snap. When I turn it back on the screen is blue and has light blue horizontal lines. It usually has sound. Within in seconds it will shut down again. The set is 7 years old and works great except for this problem. When it was 2 years old it was in the repair shop with this same problem and it cost almost $300. Within six weeks it was again having the same problem but stopped and worked fine. It can go for months without shutting down. It has been inoperable for 4 hours at this time. At one point, 3 hours, I had a picture and then is shut off again. Any suggestions on how to repair would be appreciated. Also, an estimated cost would help determine whether to repair or replace.

The most common cause for what you are seeing is a shorted gun in the picture tube. When 2 elements (heater and cathode) of one of the guns inside the neck of the picture tube touch, that gun goes full on and overloads the flyback (high voltage) transformer. If it is in the blue gun, the screen will go bright blue with light blue "retrace" lines in it. The computer senses the overload and shuts the set off. At 2 years old the tech most likely tried removing the short by arcing between the elements. This works sometimes but the short often comes back a few months later. Another attempt at removing the short could be tried, and it might work this time, but it may or may not work for long. The ony other solution is to replace the picture tube but that would cost much more than the set is worth. A qualified tech will be able to tell you if this is the problem in your set.

There are two things you can try. Press "Sleep" until you see "off" appears. If this doesn't fix the problem, go to the "Eco" settings and set "Power Saving" to "Off", set "Idle TV Standby" to off, and "Auto Shut Off" to "off". I hope this works for you.

Sony trinitron kv-es29m80 tv has no led light

The blinks are fault indication. If the standby light blinks 10 times and the set shuts down after that;
Check Q8014 and Q8013 for shorts, leakage, or bad solder connections on the " D" board. If the transistors are bad, check R8051 and IC8005, also on the "D" board

Sony rear projection screen is red then tv shuts off

Can be 1 of 2 things. 1st the red tube just needs the voltage to it turned down. In the front of TV (you have to remove the lower front half of TV to access it) is a plastic square with 6 knobs. The from left to right top knobs control focus for blue,green red. The bottom knobs control voltage to each tube in same order (so lower right knob for red) turn SLOWLY to left to reduce voltage until excessive red and lines go away. If you over turn left or right set will turn off. If that does not fix it or if lines reappear then option 2 is that red picture tube is failing outright and needs replacement.

I have a sony wega

Generally speaking whent he set shuts itself down, the standby light will blink a code. This will be a count followed by a short pause and then the count again etc.

When teh set shuts down, count the blinks and post it here. That will indicate the circuit that has the problem.
