Manual missing and the parental cotrol is set to PG movies. how do i reset it?
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a manual available anywhere online. However, it turns out the unit was distributed by "GrandView Tech Electronics" who seem to support nothing but are a subsidiary of Shenzhen Soling, who have a website supporting most of their units; http://www.szsoling.com/en/contact%20us.asp The apparently closest model they have online is the DVD-688; http://www.szsoling.com/en/products.asp?BigClassName=Car%20Player%20DVD.VCD.CD.MP3.ESP&ns=&page=1 (Only if the Fixya picture is accurate.) If that is the right model or not, you need to contact them for a manual on the first link or use their online help, although I think direct contact would be more sucessful. Hope this helps, I will keep looking and maybe someone out there has a manual they will scan, but Soling are the primary manufacturers so they should be able to help. :)
The next thing you could try is to look on ebay for someone claiming to sell one with a manual, contact them and ask them to answer your question from the manual "to verify that they have the right one". You may get lucky without any expense.
Good luck
If you need help at any time to identify a quality, supported product to purchase, please ask - we get a good idea of which products are good or not from other users problem postings and from searching around to solve them.
Real long shot, but are you able to access the on-screen menus - if so, please let me know what you get - I may be able to figure it out. Usually it would be a sub-menu of the "settings" menu, and usually would require a code to be input. parental control codes are usually four numbers - by default usually set to 0000 or 1234 although any code could have been entered by whoever set the control level. Be wary about entering a third code if there are any warning messages, but usually with in car dvd's this is not a problem.
Hope you get lucky - if you can get the menus up and need help then please post a photo(ideally) or describe them - they may possibly be a copy of the software from an older more mainstream unit.
Good luck, hope this helps :)
Ps - if you haven't tried already, try disconnecting the unit from power for at least an hour or two (easiest way is to disconnect the car battery completely). It just possibly may revert to factory default settings, although usually this would be an option in the menus instead.
