1996 dodge caravan sport 3.3 no spark. please help!

It's always ran fine, went to town one day came home everything good, that evening i put new headlight bulbs in, i did not start it afterwards but i did turn on the lights for a minute they looked good, i shut them off and went in for the night. the next morning it just cranked over and over, no start. then i pulled a plug and had someone turn it over there was nothing, i even held the plug in closed fist, nothing. i just today put a new coil pack on nothing changed. about four months ago i was driving down the road, all of a sudden all gauges went to zero, then a couple seconds later they came back to normal, not sure what that was all about? please someone help me out!!!!!!!!!!!

do you have access to an OBDII scanner? if so see if you have codes for the crankshaft position sensor.

Have the fault codes read
never hold a plug or HT lead in your hand
in the old day cars the voltage was around 16,000volts so you got a kick
todays cars are around 65,000volts so if you are not in perfect health, heart wise , the shock could cause severe heart problems

SOURCE: Won't Start

My daughters car did the exact same thing. Lights and all. I replaced the pump twice and both relays (auto shut down and fuel pump relay). Very frustrating indeed.

The 1994 recall (see below) is right on! Right behind the engine block intake (the long aluminum block on top) is a tie rod that connects from the rack and pinion to the wheel. On top of the tie rod is a bundle of wires that are wrapped in cloth style tape, just resting on the rod. As the vehicle is driven, the steering rod will rub the wires (as the wheels are turned) thus causing a possible short. My daughters was. I used liquid tape, wrapped in tape and used zip ties to lift off the rod. I have driven it alot and have not had an incident yet!

Recall Reason ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING
Recall Date FEB 08, 1994
Model Affected INTREPID
Potential Units Affected 110000

Recall Summary
THE RIGHT STEERING TIE ROD CAN RUB THROUGH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WIRING HARNESS CAUSING A SHORT CIRCUIT WHICH RESULTS IN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS INCLUDING ENGINE STALLING AND AN INOPERATIVE PARK/STARTER INTERLOCK SYSTEM.

Consequence
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION CAUSING STALLING WHILE IN MOTION OR AN INOPERATIVE PARK/STARTER INTERLOCK SYSTEM, WHICH ALLOWS ENGINE START WHILE THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT IN THE PARK POSITION, MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.

Remedy (see above)
INSTALL A REVISED WIRING HARNESS BRACKET AND A PLASTIC CONVOLUTED SLEEVE TO PROTECT THE TRANSMISSION WIRING HARNESS.

SOURCE: 2003 Dodge durango sport all four power windows not working

I know its not what anyone would want to here but sounds like a short. Best thing to do is first wiggle your key switch when the vehicle in in the on position then at the same time try to check to see if locks or windows are working. Then do the same in while the rig is running. If that dont work your ignition is fine and you need to take off door panels and check and wiggle all conections on window motors and lock motors and look for melted or burt wire or some that might have got hot. If all is good there you need to go to the back of the fuse box were the fuses to those items plug in and check there. As far as the service engine light goes either take it to the nearest Schucks or AutoZone and they will check it for free if not cycle the key on and off 3 times and on the 3rd time leave it in the on position look at your odometer light and it will flash a code remember that code and type Dodge then the code on yahoo search and it should tell you why your light is on Hintz whay sensor is bad. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 1996 dodge grand caravan died while driving, wont turn over? WHAT DOES TURN OVER MEAN TO YOU? STARTER DEAD OR ENGINE DEAD ONLY.

I had similar problem with Durango and replaced the "brain" with a refurbished PCM -- google for reburbished PCMs and call the Florida Company and ask they guys there what they think. My fix was < $300.00 by replacing the brain.

SOURCE: 96 Dodge Ram suddenly had low bat power - hard start - runs poor

Any time the computer loses power it has to go threw a set of things to Learn how to run the car, it must go threw relearning process sometimes they never set all flags because you don't drive in conditions to set a flag, for example if you are in the desert and never drive up a hill like in Colorado then you would never meet that flag requirement, as for the low voltage it seems that the ASD shorts out on these rigs and sets the codes so you have to do a pin out of the computer to see if you have a bad ground a bad asd or asd relay and you would have to charge your battery to full capacity and do a voltage test and a load test on the battery and then see if the alternator is putting out.. Check the battery and charging system first.

I have a 1996 dodge caravan that starts hard in cold weather!

Cold weather has an adverse affect on batteries. The clicking sound could be from the starter solenoid not receiving enough voltage to energize the starter motor. The engine being hesitant to start and run could indicate the need of new spark plugs, wires, etc.

The front a/c blower does not work, all fuses are good. please help

J, I am sending you some info to read but it appears that the most likely cause is the blower motor relay. Give the following notes a read and if you need some more help give me a buzz... Best of Luck..

1996 Chrysler Town & Country 3.3L, Vin R 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan ES 3.8L, Vin L 1996 Chrysler Town & Country LX 3.3L, Vin R 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan LE 3.8L, Vin L 1996 Dodge Caravan LE 3.8L, Vin L 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.3L, GAS, Vin R, Eng Cfg V6 1996 Dodge Caravan Sport 3.3L 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE 3.3L, GAS, Vin R, Eng Cfg V6 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan ES 3.3L, Vin R 1996 Plymouth Voyager Rallye 3.3L Customer Concern: Front blower does not work; no power to it. Fuse is OK. Tests/Procedures: 1. At the blower motor, there is a Dark Blue wire. This wire should have battery voltage whenever the key is in the "on" position. Power for the blower motor comes from the blower relay.

2. Access the front blower relay, it is located on the driver's side under the dash, near the junction block. There will be four wires going to it. The Dark Green wire should have battery voltage all the time. The Dark Blue wire is going to the motor. The Black/Orange wire should have battery voltage with the key in the "on" position. The Black wire should be grounded at all times. On this circuit, the relay is energized whenever the key is in the "on" position. Potential Causes: Front Blower Relay
Front Blower Relay Wiring
Heater Ventilation Air Conditioner (HVAC) Control Head
Tech Tips: The front blower relay is located under the dash, on the driver's side. It may be necessary to remove the junction block (fuse and relay box) in order to see it. Diagnostic Codes: None

Engine Cooling problem 2003 Dodge Caravan 6

It needs a thermostat and a coolant flush, in the worst case scenario a head gasket may be blown or leaking, have your mechanic do a coolant flush, thermostat, and leak check.

BCM Unit in 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan

The BCM Unit had to re-learn the systems when I put another unit in. The Windshield wipers use to come on whenever they wanted to without touching the button and the air conditioning stopped working all together, but now it works like new. Everything works perfectly but the only draw back is that the odometer jumped from 94,521 miles to 120,000 miles when I installed the new BCM Unit. I know that the miles were lower but I am happy that the van is running great and everything works just as they are suppose to. I believe that the air conditioner unit did not get the right signal from the BCM and so the motor started to smoke. I ran the engine for 10 minutes and it went away. Thanks again for the advice and have a blessed day. TED
