How to hook up the Logitech Z3 stereo speaker system to an HP Pavillion laptop

I have an HP Pavillion dv9715nr Notebook laptop. I also have a "like new" Logitech Z# stereo speaker system that I used to use on my HP tower. Please advise the best way to hook up the system in order to be able to get the best sound quality and volume response.

I had the same problem for the longest time with my set of Logitech 540 5.1 speakers. Turns out the solution was pretty simple. All I did was open the Master Volume controller and mute the Microphone. Hissing went to zero. Sound is great now.

No it won't. You will have to go out and buy external speakers.

SOURCE: Can I turn the Logitech z-2300 to a 4.1 speaker system?

You will need a separate pair of powered speakers to do that, plugged separately. The quality of the sound will remain the same on the front ones, the overall quality will depend on the new ones.

Logitech z3 wiring

I have a logitech z3 subwoofer with a mini-DIN-9 connector socket. It also has a volume control and 110V power cord. As best as i could trace the circuit, and using the TDA7377 stereo bridge amplifier chip datasheet, the pinout for the mini-DIN is as follows (untested):
1: L in (to vol.)
2: R in (to vol.)
3: Power (12V from transformer)
4: Standby (5V to play, 0.05mA; 0V to standby)
5: L out
6: R out
7: Ground
8: Ground
9: Ground

Connecting 3 to 4 with a large resistance (~20K ohms) should enable speaker. Pins 1 and 2 might be swapped; pins 5 and 8 might be swapped. Mini-DIN socket pin holes are numbered right to left, bottom row to top row:
9 8 7
6 5 4 3
2 1

If you search the lower base sides of your laptop you'll find two circular sockets, one with the symbol of mic and other with that of a headset speakers. Plug in to the second one and there you go :)

Regarding the compatibility of your speakers, I know for a fact that the HP Pavilion Slimlne s5380t is integrated with Intel HD audio 7.1 surround sound.

This means that it has the capacity to handle 2 speaker stereo or 2.1 speakers, your 5.1 surroud sound & for the home theatre experience it is also capable of handling 7.1 surround sound.

Try running through the Sound setup wizard in windows. It should dynamically adjust the speaker setup providing you answer the questions correctly. # of speakers, type of sound etc.

Could you give me the model of the logitech speakers and the Hp system
Generally a normal 2.1 speakers have a green connector , and should plug in to the round green jack at the back of the system.
