HOW DO YOU CUT RECIPES IN HALF?

This book "the busy moms slow cooker cookbook" has recipes for 6 or more. It tells how to increase recipes but nowhere could I find a way to cut a recipe in half and I have ruined a few beef roasts and stews trying various ways. My attempts have not worked. Please advise as I love the book and the recipes as I've been on a low fat, low cholesterol way of life for 15 years and this just hits the spot for some variety. Some recipes should not be cut in half. I would make the whole recipe and freeze the leftovers.

Your Sauerbraten recipe out of your Hamilton Beach Easy Serve-Easy Clean Removable Liner 6 qt. slow Cooker recipe book that came with my crock pot over 20 years ago.

Ingredients Recommended Hamilton Beach® Product:
Slow Cooker - 5 or 6 Quart Size
  • 3/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup frozen chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon chopped garlic
  • 2 cans (14 oz. each) beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 12 ginger snap cookies
  • 2 envelopes (0.8 oz. each) brown gravy
  • 1 (4 to 5 lbs.) boneless chuck or bottom round roast
Directions
  1. Combine all ingredients, except the meat, in the slow cooker. Stir well.
  2. Add the meat and stir well to coat.
  3. Cover and cook on preferred setting:
    • Low - 10 hours
    • High - 5 hours

I believe you mean the brand name Hamilton Beach. There are only a few recipes in the owner's manual for the Hamilton Beach model 33254H slow cooker.

Everything overcooks except beans

HI BETTE...I USED THIS ITEM FOR THE 1ST TIME TODAY...I DECIDED TO TRY IT AT A TIME WHEN I WOULD BE HOME TO OBSERVE THE PROCESS...I USED THE FROZEN BANQUET CROCKPOT CHICKEN WITH POTATOES, VEGGIES & SAUCE FOR MY 1ST EXPERIMENT...INSTRUCTIONS : SET ON LOW FOR 8-10 HOURS...AFTER LESS THAN 4 HRS, THE SAUCE WAS BURNING/STICKING TO THE SIDES OF THE CROCK POT AND THE VEGGIES WERE MUSH...IT WAS BUBBLING UP LIKE IT WAS ON THE HIGHEST SETTING ON THE STOVE TOP...I CALLED RIVAL ( 800.323.9519 ) AND SPOKE TO MARIO IN CUSTOMER SERVICE...HE DID SOME EXPLAINING ABOUT THE HEATING ELEMENTS BEING ON THE BOTTOM AND THE SIDES OF THE HEATING BASE AND SUGGESTED TO CUT ALL SLOW COOKER RECIPE TIMES IN HALF, INCLUDING THE RECIPE BOOK THAT CAME WITH THE CROCKPOT...I'M GOING TO TRY THIS AGAIN WITH ANOTHER FROZEN BANQUET CROCK POT PRODUCT ($6.00) , I'LL REDUCE THE COOKING TIME AND INCREASE THE ADDED WATER...I'M NOT GOING TO USE AN EXPENSIVE CUT OF MEAT UNTIL I GET THE HANG OF THIS "SMART" POT...I'VE ALWAYS USED THE OLD FASHIONED TYPE SLOW COOKER WHERE IT WAS SLOW EVEN ON THE HI SETTING !!!
