Honda 5000 generator with remote starter running rough.. tis like ******* or something.. oil was almost empty so i stopped generator and added oil and restarted.. can u give some advice as to how to remedy...

Those generators are set up with a low oil saftey but your gonna want to check compression anyways just to verify it is where it needs to be. Im gonna guess its to be between 120-160 psi, check your manual for the service limits. after that check your air filter, valve lash, fuel filter etc etc.

It starts with the switch fine but when i let go of the key it cuts off

Check for faulty low oil sending unit or oil level low or dirty oil (some generators have a fuel cut-out solenoid at the carb ). Key switch will override the low oil safety. Easy test, remove wire from oil sending unit. If unit runs, and oil has not been changed in a while, service engine and retest.

Honda 5000 generator clear oil out leaking thru air intake

There is supposed some oil in there. There is a tube to the carb intake that allows flow like a pcv valve

Oil change

There are two 14mm bolts on both sides (lower) of the motor. Unscrew one or both and drain the oil....Replace with sae 30 or 10w30 oil and should take almost a quart. (Put the bolts back in and tork slightly.) Check oil level.

What type of oil for a Coleman 5000 Generator?

You need a quart of regular old SAE 5W30 motor oil with detergent.
The engines on these generators are more or less the same as a lawn mower.
Don't forget to service/change the air cleaner when you change the oil, that should keep your generator producing full power.

Regards,
Carl
