Hi I need to be able to play play mp4 and mkv on my samsung ht-z120 dvd player. I have searched for codec upgrades and firmware upgrades for this machine but cannot find anything. Is it possible to do this - help would be appreciated as a friend has given me some great movie files but they won't play on my system! Thanks!
You can try a free video player on your PC to play these MKV and MP4 files which would be a much easier way to solve the issue. You can try Leawo Blu-ray Player which is a free video player and it can support more than 180 formats.
I use the GomPlayer which you can get here. http://player.gomlab.com/eng/download/
This player works great I have no problems with it and it plays MKV and MP4
Testimonial: "Thanks, but it needs to be something I can install on my dvd player, NOT my PC. I assume gomplayer needs to be on a PC?"
Thanks, but it needs to be something I can install on my dvd player, NOT my PC. I assume gomplayer needs to be on a PC?
So as I look at what you got, few options if you have a PC then you are in good hands go use ConvertXtoDVD and you can get those mp4 and mkv files converted and burned on to a dvd and watch them on the player.. Other then that you can use the usb connection and convert to computer watch that way or yea not so many options with that play due to its minimum felxibility ..

SOURCE: No thumbnail Preview of video files in VISTA Ultimate
You will not get video previews on files for which you lack the proper video codex. Furthermore, that codex needs to be accessible to Windows media player. If it is application specific, only available to Nero, etc. it won't work.

did you use the divx codec or something else? More than likely you need to go and download the divx.com codex. What player are you using? Windows Media Player I am assuming?

It is not your hardware, you need to download the CODEC (Compression / Decompression)
software. Try clicking on the below link to see if this works.

Try installing the k-lite codec pack and see if that fixes the issue.

Hello,
You are probably a victim of a scam. Its not a good idea to buy mp3 players off ebay or memory sticks. A lot of them are fake or scams. Especially don't buy ones with odd names like diamond etc.. Its safer to stick with brandnames you know such as sony, ipod, etc..
You can read more about mp3 player / memory stick scams on this ebay post.
