Hayward H400FDN Low NOx Natural Gas Pool or Spa Heater Logo
Posted on Mar 23, 2009

I just installed a new Hayward H400FDN and it will not stay lit.

I installed a Hayward H400FDN natural gas heaters. No codes when truned on. Cycles on and lites for 3-5 seconds, then poof. Recycles and tries again and same thing happens. Finally shows IF code (Ignition failure error). Need some help troubleshooting from here. This is a brand new unit. Thanks.

I had the same issue...you don't have enough gas pressure.

I do have enough gas pressure, but it still goes to IF for no reason..There has been no rain since I had it installed by a local pool company last Wednesday (Feb. 23rd) and it goes to IF right after it starts heating..I called the company and nobody responds..They are called everything 4 pools.....$ 2,500.00 for nothing as far as I'm concerned...

I had to.have the gas company come out and upgrade my entire meter (2lbs)...then I had to install regulators for my furniss, water heater, dryer, gas fireplace and the pool heater... after that... with some fine tuning...it worked.

Hayward H400FDN won't stay lit

It is probably not sensing flame. You either have a clogged orifice underneath the flame sensor and you probably need to have the gas pressure assessed, meter size and gas valve pressure adjustment. These heaters need 2" wc of gas pressure.
