My research suggests that the battery is a lithium type CR1220:

I suggest you remove the one you have & take off the plastic cover & confirm.
If that is the case then take a trip to your local camera shop or Maplin and pay no more than £1.99!

Bear in mind that this will be the bare cell & you may have to attach wires to it? Don't know as I haven't taken that PC apart. If you do need to solder to it be aware that these cells can explode if overheated! If in doubt then this was the best "official" replacement I could find:

Hi informatica, I`m in england and the part number l got from ibm is -: 11J8591 l think it`s a little round battery which l`ve been told again by ibm is located under the modem bay.
