Can an HP Photosmart C4180 Printer scan a document to a computer?

If your HP Printer is connected to the computer it should be able to save the scanned images to your computer when you start the scanner using the scanner icon on your computer.
The the way is to save the images to your memory card and transfer them to your computer using a memory card reader, then you can email these images as a file attachment in your emails.

Go to scanner icon and right click mouse on it and change the scanned file form JPEG to pdf. When you scan multiple documents, it will save in one file alone no matter how many document you are scanning.

You need to use the grey cd to install the software onto your Mac if you have not already done so. If you don't have the Mac CD you can download the installation software and all drivers from HP here (select your operating system first).

If you have installed it aready, try uninstalling and then reinstalling using the HP website to obtain the updated drivers etc. rather than your CD.

Once you have uninstalled the software, disconnect your printer and then restart your computer. Do not re-connect your printer until you have reinstalled the software.

To verify that the software has installed properly, look for the HP Solution Centre on your desktop, double click on the icon and check that both "scan picture" and |"scan document" are showing.

Unfortunately Vista has problems with many printers. (Or maybe I should say many printers have trouble with Vista.)

HP has a work around that allows you to scan without using the Scan button. Go to:

They give you 2 options to scan using programs on your system

scan the doc. then save it as jpg. format then put in the folder, then the folder must be convert to zip file so that you can e-mail it.

On my version of the hp software I can quite easily do this.

You will need working email software on your pc, so to scan the image, ensure that the pc is connected to the scanner and the pc is switched on - with all the HP scanning software installed.

Press the scan button on top of the scanner, with the document inside the scanner faced down.

When the HP Software pops up on the PC - the scanned image should appear. You can then click the email as attachment button in the HP software.

trying to scan pic from phto to pc and only gives me options of scan and reprint or scan to memory card all i want to do is put a phto on my pc?
