I've had this monitor for some time now and has always worked very well. Just lately, when I turn it on it does not always do the right thing. The switch tells me it sees the computer but the Acer splash screen does not come on as usual, and I will just get an intermittent blink. If I turn it off and on a few times I eventually get the Acer screen and everything is fine. Once on there are absolutely no issues. However the problem is getting more frequent and it is taking longer with the on/off to get it going. Anything anyone can offer would be great thanks.
YOU DESCRIBE THE PROBLEM VERY WELL.IF IT'S OLD
THE ADVISE WOULD BE START LOOKING FOR A REPLACMENT-MONITOR
Testimonial: "Thanks for the help. I was hoping to see if there was a parts replacement solution before I bought a new monitor because it seems a shame since everything else works as it should. Again, Thanks"
SOURCE: monitor keeps going blank at start up
This looks to be a power supply fault - the inverters for the backlights are built into the power supply (Delta Electronics, model no. ADP-40AF).
SOURCE: Acer AL1917 Monitor does not start up immediately.
You'll need to have your power board -inverter redone.
The capacitors are starting to fail and that eventually will stop it all together.
I repair many monitors through ebay with these types of problems.
If you take it apart and send me a picture, I can usually see the problem areas.

Possible that the HV inverter or the CFL tubes are going bad / defective. I suggest to bring the unit to an authorized Acer service center for proper check-up / test & fix the problem. regards

It is screen resolution problem.
when you power up the computer press F8 key thene nter in enable vga mode then go to diaply property and set screnn resolution to 1024*768 thenh apply and ok.

Definitely a problem with the monitor. If you can get the back open
then look at the main board and the power board. You will want to look
for puffy capacitors. Instead of a flat top it will look puffy like its
pregnant.
If you find any like that then you need to replace
them with new capacitors that have the same Uf rating and at least the
same voltage or higher.
This will take some unsoldering and
soldering skills. Make sure the stiped edge gets aligned with the
striped edge on the board.
If you replaced them then the monitor
should turn back on. If it doesn't then its a screen problem and you'll
need to get a new monitor.
