I plugged my sansa e250 into my computer, and it was charging until I tried to add songs to the device using Windows Media Player. After that, or during that process, the screen changed into alternating light and dark blue lines, and it won't turn off. The computer also doesn't recognize the USB device, so when the computer came up with a box that said that the device had malfunctioned, and to reconnect the device. I did so, and the computer still doesn't recognize it, the screen is still blue, the sansa e250 is still unresponsive, and the computer says to "replace the device", which I'd rather not do. Thank you for your help.
In case anyone else has this problem, I fixed it. I unscrewed the back and removed the battery, then I put the battery back in, and the sansa performed fine, except that I have to put the songs back on that I was trying to put on the device before. In case anyone else has this problem, I fixed it. These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.
Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced. Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website. Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything. Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp If these fail, then: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version). You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer. -Tha Mp3 Doctor

are you trying to delete the songs from a different computer than you put them on ? i had this problem when i used my roomates computer to put some songs on my old sandisc when i tried to erase them from my computer they wouldnt show up but i had no room left on the mp3 so i ended up haveing to erase them on the same computer as i had downloaded them on
I do mine through Windows Media Player
1)Plug in Sansa
2)Open up Windows Media Player and wait for the Sansa e250 icon to show up under the library. First time, might say 'What device is this' or 'Autoplay'-for autoplay, you click 'sync media files to Sansa e250 using WIndows Media Player'
3)When library shows, click 'Sync' if it is not already there.
4)Just simply click and drag the songs you want from the computer library to the list pane on the side.
5)Once your done, click 'Sart sync'
TO DELETE
1)Plug in
2)Wait for the icon under Library in WIndows Media Player
3)Go to Songs under Sansa e250
4)Right click desired songs and choose Delete. You only want to delete from Sansa e250-nothing else
1st plug your sansa into the computer then go to my computer and click on the sansa e 250 icon then click on the "media folder" and after that click on the songs folder then a bunch of folders will come up click on these and they hold your songs from there you can delete them.
first you have to turn your sansa on and go to the setting and then you have to go to usb mode and ptu it on "mtp"
then plug it back up to your computer and this time when you plug it up the computer will start detecting it and when add song use your windows media player
If you are using Windows Media Player you can use that. Depends on which version you are using.
How to Videos are here;

OR you can manually manage the music thru My Computer>Device Name (e250)>Music Folder.
Please add to the question if that didnt work.

You have to first change the USB mode on the player to MTP (as opposed to MSC). Forget using the Windows Media Player (yeah, I know). Go to Explorer, go to drive E or whatever your Sansa is listed as....open it and it will show different types of folders. Go to MUSIC folder. The songs are listed and you can delete, e.g. delete mp3 and keep WMA of the same song, or whatever else you want to delete.
The only way I know to delete music files or voice or FM recordings, is straight from the User's manual on the CD:
1. Set the e250 to MSC mode.
2. Plug it in to your computer with the USB connector.
3. Open the Sansa e250 drive in My Computer and browse to the MUSIC folder (or RECORD folder)and delete the files there. (That's where you also add music files, by dragging from other explorer windows.)
To delete (or add) photo and video files, you have to use the Media Converter, which you install from the disk that came with the e250.
In case anyone else has this problem, I fixed it. I unscrewed the back and removed the battery, then I put the battery back in, and the sansa performed fine, except that I have to put the songs back on that I was trying to put on the device before.
