I also have a problem with my xd-picture card. I have an olympus fe-115 and am using a kodak 128 mb xd-picture card. i have never had problems with it before. i inserted it into my dad's computer to transfer some images, and now when i put it my camera and turn it on, it is saying "write protect" and i can do anything with the camera. how do i fix this?
Hi,
I have got an OLYMPUS FE-100 camera, I downloaded the photos in to the computer thereafter the camera has been displaying the “WRITE PROTECTED”message on screen, not allowing me to take new photos and edit the existing ones. It does not have any memory card. I haven’t inserted any memory card yet, it has only internal memory of camera. Could you suggest me the solution
Thanks

Check the manual to discover how write protect is achieved with your particular camera/card Some card rely on a silver foil stick[Smart Media] other have a switch. Compact flash rely on a control on the camera. So you will have to have a good browse through the manual - do not forget that there is a Full manual in PDF on the software disk.

I too was having a problem with an olympus e-410. On the screen it had [CF] write protect. In the manual it says something about "card is set to read-only ......"
Long story short what I discovered was that the the file system on the Compact flash was "hidden and read only"
To fix:
show hidden folders: http://www.york.ac.uk/services/cserv/help/compyrk/hidden.htm
Then:
1. double click my computer
2. find drive letter that camera is mounted on and give it a good old double click
3. folder should now be displayed
4. left and right click on it
5. select properties
6. Take out the ticks for the attributes of read-only and hidden
7. click on OK
8. do what needs to be done
9. Reverse the "show hidden folders" document
