Continual restarts are either a corrupt driver, but its a process of illimination as to which one so start your pc in safe mode (F8 on boot up)and select start windows in safe mode; as this will only load the graphics in VGA mode and not the main driver and if it all works ok without the graphics driver, suspect the graphics driver and uninstal it and download a newer version. The other bios problem may be the fact that your cmos battery (CR2032 disc shaped on the motherboard) may need changing if all your settings are wrong (eg date and time are always wrong)and you have to keep pressing F1 to continue to load windows.

HP Pavilion g series g7 black screen but occasion flicker shows it is up and running.

Hook a spare monitor to the video output usually on the back, if picture is okay! the problem lies in the inverter board, "just below the screen" or the backlight behind the LCD display, or the video cable from the screen to the motherboard has come loose from the plugin. But if both show the same symptom it means the Video Graphics Card is defective, normally built into the motherboard.

Pc in safety mode

g'day!
to get to your PC's safe mode:
  1. restart the computer.
  2. as the computer restarts, begin pressing the F8 key after the Gateway BIOS logo appears until the Windows Advanced Options Menu screen appears.
  3. on the Windows Advanced Options Menu screen, use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode, and then press the ENTER key.
  4. You are now in the Safe Mode of your PC. take note: that the display may appear to be larger than what you normally see. this will return to normal once you reboot it.
cheers mate!

Hello

1. On POST (Powerup). enter BIOS by pressing F2
2. Tab along to the second option "Main"
3. Goto last option "SATA mode" & press enter.
4. From the small selection display select "IDE mode"
5. Save & exit the BIOS. This will then set the SATA mode for XP to be recognise.

Now try install XP.....DO NOT set this back to SATA Mode after you install the XP as it will NOT boot.

Tried formatting now to display Toshiba Satellite

Hi,
It sounds more like a problem at the inverter end, probably dry joints on the coil or a cable has disconnected from it. Either way you will have to remove the screen bezel (plastic screen surround) to get to the inverter. The inverter is an elongated circuit board under the screen itself, just check that the cables are connected, if they are disconnect the cables and remove any screws holding the inverter to the lid and take it out.
Look at the back of the inverter for the coil (it will have copper wires coming from it) and re-solder the points around the coil, put back the inverter and connect the cables to it and turn on the laptop.
You will probably find the display works fine and you can re-assemble the screen bezel and carry on with your install.

Good luck.
