My 56 inch hdtv model d56w20 will not come on it all started woth it shutting off after i turned it on then i turned it back on and it work fine last night we turn it off before we went to bed and this moring tryed to turn it on and it would not turn on the power light turns on you hear funny sounds in the back and smell a funny smell then the power light goes back off please help

Well .. the smell is not good.. that usally idcates high voltage arching... 90 percent chance its what is called a flyback. and when they go the horizontal out put goes...not a difficult repair for technician.. but you have to get right parts

Sounds like it's possibly your convergence IC's overheating. On some projection tv's, after time, the solder joints on the IC's weaken from the heat and cause them to turn off the tv for it's own protection.
Usually its the CP150, CP120 and the CP114 capacitors that will cause that symptom. You can get the RCA repair kit by that same name from www.tvrepairworld.com which does include the repair instructions.
www.tvrepairworld.com should be able to assist you they have free user manuals available for most models if you send them a request, and they also have service manuals for sale depending on what type of manual you need.
These units are famous for bad capacitors in the power supply and loose solder joints at the high voltage transformer. The deflection PCB has to be removed to perform these repairs. This is also a dangerous circuit to work with. You may want to have a repair shop check it out for you. Thanks
