Question about Microtek scanmaker 3840

Troubleshooting I have a mikcrotek scanmaker 3840 which is not working now. I tried to scan any document or picture but their is no images appeared on my screen. This scanner is under warranty but the problem is I lost my receipt. I heard a loud sound from the scanmaker when i tried to scan. Hope you can help me as soon as possible coz I have a many paper works to scan. Thank you and good day. INday

Hi Inday, Based on your post/description, there appears to be a mechanical problem with your scanner. It would seem that something is blocking the moving part of the scanner internally. Should you wish to give it a try, you have to open the scanner. Chances are you have to invert with the bottom up to access the screws. There might be 6-8 screws with plastic locking at the sides. Upon removal of the bottom plate, the interior of the scanner would be exposed. There should be practically nothing inside except for a movable bar that is held in place on one side by a guide rail and a plastic toothed belt on the other end. Near the topend would be an electronic board. Check that there is no blockage on the guide rail nor on the path of the roller or the toothed belt. Since this sound more of a mechanical problem (due to the "loud sound" that you heard), it should be visually detectable. Your Model 3840 Scan only works with Win 98SE/ME/2000/XP

At this point you can do:

1) Replace your Scanner for one Vista Compatible


2) Downgrade your system to Window XP

Poor scanned image quality

yes u can repair this try to remove the cover clean up the white tiles which reflect the image, also unscrew it and clean up the mirror and lens

well go to your setting i mean file menu on you source scanner and locate destination to photo imaging

the scanner has a lock and unlock slides at right corner front, I have the same problem before and it takes long time to figure this out, you will also find how dumb you are with that scanner...
