Getting in the car, turn on the engine and take off. The first gear shift jerks pretty hard. The car jerks forward only once. The jerk is very quick, and very noticeable. The next shift is even worse. Instead of jerking hard, the car jerks back and forth quickly and repeatedly. It takes quite alot of gas to pick up speed when it does this. It seems as if I let off the gas, then push on the gas again, when I repush on it, it works fine. Most of the time. Any ideas?

If you have an Automatic transmission, you are out of transmission fluid. Check the fluid by viewing the dipstick nearest the engine firewall, and if it is low, add one quart at a time. Do not overfill, or you will blow a gasket and have a bigger problem. You may also need to replace your transmission, if problem reoccurs. To see if your transmission is leaking, park for about an hour, on any flat concrete surface and look for red fluid spills.
