Your blue crt has a short - you can verify this by unplugging the socket from the blue crt and powering up the set and you should see a yellowish looking picture with just the red and green crt's operating. You can try turning down the screen control pot (B) for blue with the blue crt on (just to the point where you no longer see retrace lines in the picture on a blank input)Sony has had a lot of problems with the crt's on these models and sooner or later all the crt's will fail - For a permanent repair all must be changed.

SOURCE: Blue Screen

You have a bad blue picture tube. If you replace it the red and green will be weak and probably go sooner than you think. Everytime I had to replace a tube in a sony projo tv i had to replace all 3 picture tubes at the same time. It's very expensive if you don't have any type of warranty coverage.

turn the center dial ( for green) down slightly then turn the other two the red and the blue up slightly to get the best screen without a dominate color screen.

Turns on for 30 sec then goes bright blue and goes back into standby. turn back on it does it agian

This is blue CRT problem in tv as it is rear projection tv that has three CRTs red-green-blue inside to project color picture on front screen.
Blue CRT (tube) will be replaced to fix the issue and it is job of Pro because lots of adjustments are required after replacement of tube.
Local tv repair shop will help you for that.
Thanks

Screen goes all blue

if it is a KP65ws500 it is one of a group of sets made by Sony where all the picture Tubes(set has a RED, Green, and Blue Tube.) ARE BAD. Most of these sets had all three tubes replaced during a program Sony had. The tubes are NO LONGER AVAILABLE---the only way to get one is remove the tube and send it out for rebuild---most of these cost about 250-300 just for the tube.

The set is shutting down because when the screen goes bright blue it detects one of the CRT's(tubes) is pulling way to much current.

The problem with Replacing your Blue Tube is cost and----sooner or later the other two(red and green) are going to fail also.

best advice is maybe not to fix it.

I replaced dozens of the tubes in these sets when Sony had a recall and provided the tubes for free and paid for the labor etc.

I know I am not giving you good news but I do this here for free and if this has been helpful give me a vote here. Thanks!

Screen fades to blue.

The Blue SCREEN setting is too high. These adjustments are located inside the TV behind the front panel. There are two screws behind covers and then a wooden panel to remove to access the adjustments. The leftmost set are for BLUE, the middle are GREEN, and the right are RED. The top row are FOCUS and the bottom are SCREEN. Focus will focus/unfocus the tube and Screen will adjust the power of that tube (there are 3 tubes, one for each color). If Screen is adjusted too high, horizontal lines will appear (my TV had red lines, but I played around with the knobs and saw that it could happen on any of the colors). Additionally, if SCREEN is set even higher than that, the tube could go so high that it turns the whole screen that color (in your case, blue). If this happens the TV will shut down, probably due to either overheating or overvolting. To fix this issue, turn the appropriate SCREEN dial down until the lines go away. In your case, you want to turn the lower left dial down. Don't turn it too far down, if you turn it more than necessary the TV can give you an AKB error (noted by the STANDBY light flashing a sequence of 5 blinks).

Could you show a picture of the distended cover you mentioned?

Were the light blue lines you were referring to, diagonal, or truly horizontal?
