Question about Philips Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD Recorder/VCR
I have the same machine and problem...I know I was using the correct discs so the disc lens alignment seemed like the most logical problem. I removed the casing (6 phillips screws) and blew out all of the dust and gave it a good ole tapping all around. It is now recording as it did when it was brand new!

E4 is error on optical pickup. One or two of the problems might be. You disc lens is out of alignment, or the discs your using are the wrong type. You need to use a SOLID SPEED DISC. Yes:Dvd-r x4, x8. Dvd-rw x4, 8x. DONT use up to 16, 1-16x or antyhing with UP TO or 1-8x, 1-16x

I have E2 and only have 2 hrs dvd record time and 0 VCR record time. Maybe 10 hrs of DVD play time. Jim
I have a Magnavox MWR 20V6 DVD Recorder/VCR. I have had great success recording in any combination (DVD to VCR / VCR to DVD / TV to DVD, etc.) for as long as I have owned this machine (? ~2yrs). The last two times I tried to record a program to an hp dvd+r 16x, I've gotten the error code E 4 54037380. I've recorded these same programs to these same discs before.
I copied several old VHS to DVD today and all of a sudden, after copying a particular VHS successfully, I started to make another copy and 2 minutes in, got the error message. I played the VHS and it was fine, but tried using another blank DVD and got same error. Suggestions?
I have the same machine and am getting the same error. The error comes up when I attempt to turn off the disk write-protect on discs I recorded on this machine, and when the machine starts formatting a new blank disc. I've spoken with tech support and they can't give me any guidance.
If it's the optical reader, how or where can I get that fixed? I bought the machine fairly inexpensively - if the repair is too expensive, I'll likely just buy a new machine.
