Do you have sound still. Ifvso while the TV is on, shine a torch into the screen .
if you see a picture you possibly have a backlight issue
failing that tcon board but get it tested
Changing the convergence IC's could cost $300-$400 total.CRT based TV rear projectors are more or less obsolete now, with everything going to DLP and LCD.These days 5 years is the expected life on these TV's (most extended warranty contracts only cover up to 5 years)
you've found the right place buddy
I keep buying manuals from various websites so I can damn well help u in this..
what chipper is it btw? Like few websites have some manuals better while some have other brands better
This would be called a convergence defect. IT is not a real bad repair but it will have to be done by an authorized RCA repair shop. The alignment takes a jig called a chipper checker. Call around your area. WE charge about 250.00 to do this in columbus GA. THat should give you a starting point

The problem is the result of a failure in the horizontal output or high voltage section. This means that respectively, either HOT/Convergence IC, or flyback transformer is defective. The repair is done testing the flyback, then testing or replacing the convergence IC or transistor causing the problem. The repair job will go above $150, and due to the age of TV I would say that it is better purchasing a new set. The failure in fact cannot be repaired by the user. There are no part that can be replaced in an easy way. The repair must be done by a trained and experienced person, as it consists in testing at component level, then in doing some precision soldering/de-soldering to replace the parts involved.
I would say that this TV has done its job, and that rather to repairing the old set you would better buy a new TV. I think that the best choice would be a new flat panel TV. An LCD TV consumes less than half the power needed by an older CRT like yours, and will repay the expense by itself over the years. Other advantage of a flat panel TV is that there is no radiation emission. With any CRT TV, the beam hitting the display will release a little amount of radiowave emissions. The TVs are shielded, and the emission who is mostly filtered, is not considered dangerous. It is however better to reduce the exposure of human body to higher frequency radio-waves like those emitted by CRT. In short. It is time to send the old CRT to retirement and to get a newer TV. A new flat panel will start at less than the repair price for this TV and will present different advantages.
Unfortunately the only option with a cracked screen is to buy a new tv. These screens are more expensive to replace than to buy a new tv. The only other option you may have is to sell the tv with the cracked screen to someone for parts who has the same model tv or maybe a tv repair shop will buy it from you. With that being said, you might can call some repair shops and who knows, maybe they have a screen from a disposed tv that will work. Whatever the case you are better off just buying a new tv and either keeping that one or selling it for parts.
I get people all the time bringing rear-projection TV's in to my shop,
that a friend of theirs gave to them. There is a reason why
people give them a way (even better - sell them to their friends) cause
these sets have many problems, are expensive to repair, and they want
something better. Your money is better spent on something
new. Just make sure you google the model number you intend to buy
first with the words "repair" or "complaint" in the search, in order to
not get one of the many new sets that are customer service
nightmares.
