When the camera is turned on, the Green mode is activated. The camera then turns itself off within 3 seconds. There are no options available and no other buttons work. The only options that appear, do so when the 'Play' button is held down whilst the ON button is pressed. There are no options available to turn off Green mode. When MENU is held whilst turned ON, a Ver 1.00 appears and the nothing. When TRASH and ON are pressed at once, the camera zooms in and out but is frozen from other functions.
Check the user manual. It was very helpful. When the camera is on, press the green trash button to take it out of green mode. Also you need to press the menu button and go in and change the focus mode to automatic standard.Check the user manual. It was very helpful. When the Pentax Optio M20 camera is switched on the start screen shows . The lens opens . The display shows Auto-Pict , Auto picture , green mode, then lens closes and camera switches off. No functions operate , As previously shown holding play back button when switching on allows access to menu and settings but camera will not operate in taking mode. I'm having the same problem - it starts up saying it is in Green mode, with Auto Picture on. The zoom lenses goes in and out for a second or two, then it retracts and turns off no matter what I do.
I've tried replacing batteries, pressing all the buttons including the Menu and Green/Trash button - it seems to pay no attention to anything besides the initial power-on button. turn it on... then as it's loading up... hold the "menu" button i think this forces it to stay on... i changed the green button to be something else... not green mode then i just turned it off and on again

Green mode locks all the camera's settings except for the flash. It
can be turned off, however. There are 12 preset shooting modes. The main menu screen features chirpy cartoon icons for
all the standard options, and some more unusual selections. A
MySpace-friendly self-portrait mode is included, as well as settings for
snapping pets and food.
Oddly, the menu is laid out in no particular order: the top row
features program, night, movie, voice recording and novelty frames,
while the more useful portrait and sport are relegated to the lower
tiers. The pre-loaded frames are even lamer than we've come to expect
from such fripperies, and they ratchet the processing time right up.

Press and hold the playback button for 2 seconds. The camera should turn on and be in playback mode. Switch to Camera Mode by opening the from slider cover. Hope that fixes it. See Pentax Z10 Manual Page 34. http://www.pentaximaging.com/files/manual/OptioZ10.pdf

Found the following on a website about these cameras... http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Pentax-Optio-M20-Digital-Camera-Review/Modes.htm "The second, and previously mentioned automatic mode, is the Green mode
that restricts the camera controls to two flash settings, three AF
options, zoom, and a self-timer setting. This mode locks out the menu
systems, manual focus, mode menus and other options. It’s definitely
easy to use, as all one can really do is point and shoot."
This may be a internal software confusion problem. If it is, the following may help. Make sure your buttons or dials are not on AUTOMATIC, that appears to set the green mode. I think I would remove the batteries. Next, if the camera has a small battery (similar to the bios battery in computers) remove that as well. Let the camera sit over night. You will need enough time for the capacitors to discharge. Then put the batteries in again, and try.
i got it!!! on my cam i hold down the menu button at the same time power on, it will showup a " ver 1.00" and lens move a little maybe u have to do it 2 times but second time it should work
