When the camera is turned on, the Green mode is activated. The camera then turns itself off within 3 seconds. There are no options available and no other buttons work. The only options that appear, do so when the 'Play' button is held down whilst the ON button is pressed. There are no options available to turn off Green mode. When MENU is held whilst turned ON, a Ver 1.00 appears and the nothing. When TRASH and ON are pressed at once, the camera zooms in and out but is frozen from other functions.
I just had the same problem....
here's how i fixed it...
turn it on... then as it's loading up... hold the "menu" button
i think this forces it to stay on...
i changed the green button to be something else... not green mode
then i just turned it off and on again

Check the user manual. It was very helpful. When the camera is on, press the green trash button to take it out of green mode. Also you need to press the menu button and go in and change the focus mode to automatic standard.
My camera is having the same problems. I have tried turning it on holding different buttons, turning it on then pushing buttons, all no help. I can get the pictures to import on to my pc but I can't get it to turn on to take a picture.
I just had this same issue and fixed it by pushing the green trash icon. Â Thanks to whoever posted that!
I have this issue as well and the zoom feature is frozen, won't take pix and won't retract. Have put in new batteries and have tried using the menu button as well as the trash button to no avail...the camera remains frozen...HELP it's the holidays!!!

I have a Pentax optioZ10...with the sliding lens cover. I am stuck in green mode and am ready to throw the camera out the window and it doesn't seem to matter what button or combination of buttons I push before it turns itself off. Help!
WHEN I PUT ON MY PENTAX OPTIO M20 IT SHOWS ME GREEN MODE AND BELOW GREEN MODE IT STATES AUTO PICTURE AND THEN IT ZOOMS OUT AND IN TWICE AND TURNS OFF PLEASE HELP ! HOW TO CANCEL GREEN MODE???
am having d same problem i tried all your suggestions and they are not working, why cant some one from the company suggest a suitable solution to us out.
When the Pentax Optio M20 camera is switched on the start screen shows . The lens opens . The display shows Auto-Pict , Auto picture , green mode, then lens closes and camera switches off. No functions operate , As previously shown holding play back button when switching on allows access to menu and settings but camera will not operate in taking mode.
When Pentax Optio M20 is switched on the lens opens , the display shows Auto Pict. , auto-picture , green-mode. The camera switches off after two seconds. None of the buttons have input. The menu can be accessed if the play-back button is pressed during switch-on. However changing settings has no effect whatsoever and camera still fails to operate in "taking" mode .
I have the same problem as Whiskeybravo. Does Have tried the Guest solution but it does not work for me

I'm having the same problem - it starts up saying it is in Green mode, with Auto Picture on. The zoom lenses goes in and out for a second or two, then it retracts and turns off no matter what I do.
I've tried replacing batteries, pressing all the buttons including the Menu and Green/Trash button - it seems to pay no attention to anything besides the initial power-on button.
