Our camera just stopped working one day, even after we had used it during the day.... we didn't drop it or get it wet or anything. Now we are unable to even get it to turn on....when we slide the cover off, nothing happens. We've charged the battery and have taken out and reinserted the memory card, but to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help! :)
My Canon S70 just died. It wont turn on. I tried new batteries, took out and replaced the card. It wasn't dropped, or bashed; it just stopped. Now I have a decision to make - pay over £100 for a 'service and minor repair' from a Canon authorised service centre.... not really worth it. Certainly won't replace it with another Canon! Any suggestions as to how to fix it/get it fixed? My Canon S70 just died. It wont turn on. I tried new batteries, took out and replaced the card. It wasn't dropped, or bashed; it just stopped. Hi there, had my S70 for about 3 1/2 years and I was prety happy, as this really is a great camera that produces great results, but, it just died on me, no warning, from one day to the other, so I don't know, what to do really, the repair probably cost an arm and a leg, but I haven't really used it that much and always treated it carefully, so any ideas for self repair perhaps?

Sad to say I am experiencing the same issue. S70 just up and died took a few pics outside while it was in my hand between shots the LCD powered off and the lens stayed out. Its been that way even since. At the time the battery was recently charged.Sad to say I am experiencing the same issue. Same problem, similar to previous posters. Couple of hours ago I turned it on for a snapshot. However, got stuck with the lens zoomed all the way out. Can't get the lens to retract All I hear is a buzzing sound, the display shows "E18" and shots offSame problem, similar to previous posters.

Just stopped one day. Nada. Is this what they call planned obsolescence?

I've had the same problem...after 3 years of fantastic operations, it just died after a few shots on day...just can get it to power up...not sure if its worth a repair as you can buy a 7.1 MP camera these days for ~$200...and they're smaller... but Im sad coz I really did dig my S70....

Hi
you have lens unit defective. Even if you didn't damaged and dropped, its appearance problem is the lens unit, you can bring to your local repair shop. It is quite easy problem. some point they could save part, but time is money. they would want to change the part. your part from nikon usa is very expensive, but from ebay it is very cheap. It is used but it would be reliable in most case.

If you buy and bring it with camera to your local repair shop, they would charge less labor then you bring camera only. repair shop would consider that you know what it is going on.
Thanks and kindly! ( labor they would charge around $25 to 75 depend on what they want to charge)
Yes. But not with all other Canons. The S70 uses CF cards. Some other Canons also use CF cards. Some use SD or SDHC cards. You'll have to look at the specs to see which models use which.
Apparently, Some water worked its way into the camera circuitry. You need to stop trying to get it to work...you're only making things worse. Remove the card and battery. Bury the camera in a bowl of dry rice for a few days to absorb any moisture.
It looks like you took pictures on Manual mode and didn’t set the Exposure Compensation and Shutter speed properly. If you can get good pictures on Auto mode, your camera is ok.
I have same problem.... nearly ready to dismantle it - poetntial repair costs are too high, camera has little value. Does anyone have a repair manual???
The canon powershot s70 comes with an external battery charger. Open the battery door (bottom of the camera, slide it away from the center of the camera body) remove the battery (push the little brown tab and the battery will pop out) and place the battery in the included external battery charger.
