Question about Epson Stylus CX4600 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Printer will not print color

I have left my Epson stylus CX4600 unused for the better part of two years. When I went to use it I found out that my roommate had taken the ink cartridges out and it had been sitting empty all that time. I've put in new ink and I've tried running it through but aside from the black which is a little scratchy none of the colors are working. I've cleaned the print head several times and left it over night with no improvement, is there anything else that I could do?

Color has not been used. The printer has brand new cartridges now and it will not print color or black.

I have left my 4600 unused for a year and it won't print at all. I've turned it on, ALL the lights are on and I'm unable to select what I want.

First off ( I know it's too late for you but for others ) NEVER turn off your printer it stays warm when on and keeps the ink from drying up and turning into cement in the nozzles.

I had this problem before and first used lighter fluid in the nozzles. This freed them up a bit but still was not back to normal so I then sprayed some wd-40 in the nozzles and after printing out all the crap it was back to normal 100%.
I know this sounds quite unusual but if it works don't knock it.

Maybe a drop of water in each nozzle to try and lossen things up? I dont know just a thought, sounds like it may be a lost cause anyways, so it may be worth a shot.

If the printer was unused for a week or 2 the print heads are clogged with dried up ink. You can use the maintainance tab for the printer for cleaning and nozzle check or the program below. I have been using it for several years.

This is a utility to manage your ink. Gives an accurate count of how many ink shot are left in each cartridge. The printer just told me I need a new magenta but this program says I have 13% left. It also has sepparate routines for cleaning the black and color (unfortunately not individual cartridges) and a powerful clean cycle when they are really cogged.

If any ink cartridge is empty, you won't be able to print until you replace the empty cartridge. Leave any empty cartridge installed in the device until you have obtained a replacement.

The print heads will clog up in a week or two. So you also won't be able to print until you clean the print heads.

Can't change ink cart. EPSON STYLUS CX 4600

I may have tripped across a solution to the ink carrier that doesn't want to behave.

I turned the printer off. Then, while holding down the Ink button, I also pressed and held the On button- and kept holding them. Somewhere in documentation I read that this would kick off some process, but I didn't remember what. It didn't turn on right away, but after 4 or 5 seconds of holding the buttons down, started up, went through some motions, and lo and behold, it landed on the spot showing me my cyan cartridge was out. Pressed it again, and it went to the cartridge change position.

I had to think about it, because I was now faced with breaking open a cartridge package worth $35 that could go towards the price of a new printer, and the printer still may not work, but I went boldly forward and it seems to be working fine.

Epson Stylus CX4600 printer/scanner

It sounds like the nozzles may be blocked, if it has been left for 10 months will no ink - It will have dried up. It is probably worth you running a head cleaning procedure which can be done using the Epson software. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks Daniel
