SOURCE: Maytag Quiet Series 300 dishwasher, dishes come out dirty

A water softner will not make the dishes any cleaner, it just makes it so they don't have water spots on them.
If the dishes are dirty, it is most likely that the nozzles (holes) in arms may be plugged.
Also check to make sure you are getting plenty of water to dishwasher. Make sure all water valves are full turned open.

If the control panel does not work all the time, it is very likely you have either a shorted wire, or a fualty main board which is very common in newer machines.

SOURCE: Dishwasher smells awful. It's not food on dishes..help!

Try this site on YouTube:

You probably don't need to go to this guy's extremes (but he's thorough!). You probably just need the part about how to clean the strainer and bottom of the washer. I think this'll help. There are other videos, some selling products (that I haven't used). Also some of the videos are helpful, you'll just need to take a look.

Best regards, --W/D--

SOURCE: Bosch dishwasher stinks/smells

I put an enzymatic drain cleaner in the drain at night, ran it for about 20 seconds (to move the drain water into the hose and then ran it on the shortest cycle in the morning. I repeated it the next day. Seems to make a big difference. ONLY USE ENZYMATIC OR BACTERIAL BASED DRAIN CLEANER.

SOURCE: bad smell from my samsung dmr77lhs dishwasher what to do?

Put about three or four drops of eucalypt oil into your dishwasher and put it on a wash cycle - you don't need to use the drying cycle. Then is should smell beautifully. It's probably just the newness of the machine with seals and parts all giving off the smell. If that doesn't work contact the dealer and get them to find out what it is. After all you paid good money for it.
Good Luck

My new Samsung dishwasher has a HORRIBLE smell

There are 2 possible explanations for this, either the dishwasher has a buildup of food particles and grease in the pipes and pumps and that is starting to decay. Get a dishwasher cleaner and run it through a cycle. You can find several different brands, Finish seems pretty popular, at your local grocery store. The other possible source of the smell is sewer gas backing up into the dishwasher. This happens because the waste water connection from the dishwasher is linked into the pipes under the sink after the P-trap. Take a look under your kitchen sink, locate the connection where the dishwasher wastewater pipe connects to the sink pipes leading to the main stack. Now follow the pipes from the sink drain down there will be a P- trap that prevents sewer gas from backing up into the house, your dishwasher connection should be between those two. If your P-trap is between the dishwasher conncetion and the sink drain then you are getting swere gas flowing into your dishwasher and this is what you are smelling. If this is the case have a licensed plumber come in and reconfigure the pipes so the P-trap is after the dishwasher connection and the smell will stop. It shouldn't take a plumber long and the parts are cheap. Hope this helps.

I smell my motor. Is it worth replacing, or buy new?

5 years seems short for a major appliance designed to give 10 years or more of service. I'd say it's worth repairing yourself.

Just make sure it is the motor, then dig a little deeper to find out why it failed. It can be from being bound up because of a jam in the pump, a leak causing the bearings to freeze, or in the case of inductive motors a failed starting/run capacitor.

I've seen failure of the waste water gate/valve solenoid due to a timer issue. You'll have to do your detective work and once you know exactly the part that is eminating the smell, you will have a path to backtrack from.

Remember, water and electricity don't mix and shut both off before working inside the dish washer!

Burning Smell inside siemens dishwasher

Most likely the smell is coming from a motor that is having a hard time turning, so it's overheating. Don't run it or it might catch fire!

There is a product sold at home depot that is called AFFRESH made for cleaning smells of stagnant water and other smells as well. They make two different kinds of this product one is for a dishwasher and comes in a yellow bag the other is for front load washers but can also be used on top load washers as well in a green bag. Basicly you use a tablet and run the dishwasher on its hottest setting. Unfortunatley I am unable to smell the smell that your smelling if it were a burnt wire smell then I would ask that you turn off the electrical breaker to the dishwasher whereas I have seen on LG units a couple years ago a type of black goey insulation that LG used to use as a form of insulation on the wires in between the the two panels for the door. Unfortunatley this type of insulation ended up corroding the wires and eventually makeing them short against the door of the unit. Also at least once per year you should also clean out the chopper area in your dishwasher this is the part of the dishwasher that shreds up any large debris or food particles in a dishwasher. It would really depend on if it smells like a stagnant water smell, a old food type smell, or an electrical type of smell. I very much reccommend using the AFFRESH though as even the toughest smells of mold or stagnant water can be alleviated with this product. Using two tablets usually remedies the smell. If you have any further questions message me back and please remember after our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped in your appliance situation it allows me to continue helping others in similar situations in the future Thanks
Rick
p.s if you need a schematic showing the location of your chopper message me back the model number to your machine and I will locate your schematic

Terrible smell inside the dishwasher. Bad drain smell

Hi

The smell usually comes when the unit is unable to drain water completely, you can run your dishwasher at its hottest temperature setting with 2 cups of vinegar inside the unit. After this take off the lower front panel and clean the drain pump assembly completely, also clean the drain hose, the smell should disappear after doing all this. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Very bad smell coming from dishwasher

Possibly a water leak underneath or a dead mouse behind the unit.

Bad smell

smell is not the fault of the dishwasher but your waste disposal unit - they stink!

it may be awkward, but arrange your drain so that there is a water barrier. better still. install a standpipe for the drain, again with a water barrier
