Battery exhausted Despite inserting brand new batteries the "battery exhausted" signal appears - I am not able to take pictures. I have tried replacing the batteries at least four times and the same thing happens.

Mine works when set to 'Set up' and can recall shots from the card. Turn it to any other setting and 'Warning! Batteries exhausted' shows.

I am wondering if there is damage to the lens winder motor.

Are there user tests that can be carried out to help diagnose the problem properly?

the same thing is happening to mine too. doesn't matter if they are rechargable nimh or brand new alakline. can get 4-5 shots and then it is dead.

I can take pictures with new batteries but I cannot leave them in the camera overnight. They just die! Possible drain?

Since my post, I have switched chargers (the "quick" charger was not putting enough charge in them I think) and have also taken a pencil eraser and cleaned the battery contacts in the camera body.

I also roughed up the older rechargable battery contacts with an emery board.

seems to be better now.

Hi,

I gave a Nikon Coolpix 3100 to my dougther as a christmas present. It was a read shame, when we all noticed that the camera started to turn itself off frequently; and in the next day the problem was that bad that she was not able to take a single shot. Nice Christmas :o(
I replaced the brand new duracell batteries with powerful rechargeable batteries (2600mAh) today, and it works fine. When I insert fresh non-rechargeable batteries the problem is here again.
I hope the situation will stay 'stable' now.

nice regards,
D.

Telstra 7100a home phone

Hi, It sounds like the batteries of the handset could be the problem.
Try replacing the batteries with other new batteries. I recently purchased a good brand of battery (not rechargeable), but they were down in their voltage straight out of the package.
Make sure the batteries are AAA NiMH batteries, and that they are charged for at least 16 hours.
Also check that you have inserted them the correct way +ve/-ve.
When you have inserted them, place the phone on the base and the handset should show you it is charging.

My camera signals ?weak batteries? despite fully

How do you know that the batteries are fully recharged> They lose performance over time and eventually do not take a full charge.

If the battery contacts are clean and if the contacts inside the battery chamber are also clean then the next step is to try replacement batteries. If the batteries are new then try them on another charger or in another camera (preferably both to eliminate all possibility of a faulty new set of batteries), and if that fails then you most likely have a faulty camera, but I can't help you with that yet as you haven't said which make/model you have.

Despite new batteries, still says 'change batteries'

Make sure there has been no corrosion on the battery terminals. If there is take a fine grit sand paper and carefully rub on them.

Screen black in all lighting. Icons and Menu show but screen otherwise black in all modes. Can view photos on card. Can take a picture, but it is also black. Lens cover is open. Nikon Coolpix 4600. Thanks...

Hello, I went and researched a few points in the manual and hope this helps to some extent. If this doesn't help, try resetting your camera by removing the batteries for 30 seconds, then reinstalling them and turning on the camera again.
Monitor is blank:
• Camera is off.
• Batteries are not correctly inserted or battery-chamber
cover is not properly latched.
• Batteries are exhausted.
• EH-62B AC adapter (available separately) is not properly
connected.
• Camera is in sleep mode. Press shutter-release button
halfway.
• Monitor is off.
• USB cable is connected.
• AV/Video cable is connected

No picture is taken when shutter release button is pressed:

• Camera is in playback mode.
• Batteries are exhausted.
• Red (!) lamp flickers: flash is charging.
• Green (AF) lamp flickers: camera unable to focus.
• Message "CARD IS NOT FORMATTED" appears in
monitor: memory card is not formatted for use in your
camera.
• Message "OUT OF MEMORY" appears in monitor:
insufficient memory to record picture at current Image Mode selection.

Battery getting exhanusted

Sounds like you need to call Canon. I use Energizer e2 batteries and take 700 pictures and several videos during a show I attend and still have battery life. Even with normal batteries you should be able to take several hundred pictures. Are you still under warranty?
