Mains power connection and download speed problems
I have been using an Alcatel Speed Touch USB modem for years now (the same one) I recently upgraded my service from 512k to 8meg (with Orange)
Until a couple of weeks ago (for several months) I would connect at about 6meg and then all of a sudden (one Sunday) NO CONNECTION
After a bit of trial and error I figured out that I can connect only on battery power not mains...BUT ONLY AT 2MEGS
From this I presume (and stand to be educated) that the modem works but can't handle mains power. However, last night I omitted to use the surge protection and it connected on mains power, after a re-start.
However, today I can only connect on battery power, as it won't connect with surge protection (again at 2meg)
Any help would be gratefully appreciated
The Orange help-line is useless..

Re: Mains power connection and download speed problems
This is only a suggestion you might want to replace the modem after all you have had a good use out of it I think its finally tiring out?
REPLACE IT you'll have much more fun with a newer one not to mention YEARS of fun.

A dialup modem can only go as fast as the phone line it's plugged in to, up to a theoretical maximum of 56kbs. If you live a distance from the exchange, or have a noisy phone line, the speed will be affected.
hello this modem are verry old but works normaly good if you have setup cd you can try to install it if you dont have modem drivers cd download them or the best are to buy a new modem also with wireless posibilitys not verry mutch monny or buy one on ebay or site like these mostaly cheeper than in a store if you buy in a store you wil also have waranty or you can chanche it
It is possible to connect the device and make it appear as a removable disk or mass storage device. The same as connecting a USB drive to the computer. To do that, go to Start > Settings > USB Connection mode on the phone. Choose Mass Storage and My storage in the drop down list. If you have a storage card, it will alse appear in that list. Now, all you have to do, is connect your device, open Windows Explore on the computer to copy/paste your pictures to the location you want. Again, this is a much faster way to transfer a lot of files rather than using WMDC to sync.
if you are using speed touch 330 usb modem configuration is like this...

then go to start, programs speed touch>> then selest Speed touch USB then it would give you a pop up for dial up connection, click on properties, then click on configure here you can change the speed. else go back chcek username and password and dial. should be able to connect.
