Question about Samsung HP-R4252 42 in. Plasma HDTV
I have a Samsung HP-R4252 plasma 42in. It worked great for 6 months, with an occasional wierd "Glitch" as I like to call it here and there. The top half of the TV would blink, then turn into a sorta blurry/fuzzy rainbow colored assortment of lines that went side to side, with no visible picture behind them. A solid mass of colors and fuzz. This happened on and off for the next 6 months, and like a dummy I didn't have it serviced. Now that the warranty has expired, it finally blew up. The lines have moved from the top half of the tv, to the lower left corner, and it is constant. The lines run up and down, and side to side, moving with the picture displayed in the section of the screen. Multi-colored and mostly purple, fuzzy and VERY annoying. They are not solid anymore, but almost like a plad pattern you would find on fabric. I have tried everything Samsung told me, besides getting it serviced. I am not affraid to take it apart, as I am a certified computer repair technician and certified Automotive mechanic. By this I mean I know what not to touch. (Capacitors, Transformers, blah blah) If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!

I just had my lower Y-buffer board swapped out to fix a problem similar to yours. After an hour and a half of on-time, the lower half of the screen would flicker on and off with the same appearance you mentioned. Changing out this particular board fixed it for me. However, since it has gone from top to bottom on your set, it may be more of a main board problem for you (that controls both upper and lower halves). Beyond this, I don't know any more. I am considering getting a service manual to gain more knowledge about the various PCBs in the unit so I can fix any future problems myself.

I purchased a service manual for the tv, and took it apart. From the diagnostics diagram I followed, it suggested buffers. Sure enough, both the upper and lower y buffer boards have gone bad. Estimated $600 to replace. Time for a new tv! Thanks for your help.
I bought my Samsung HP-R4272 about 3.5 years ago. A couple months ago, the bottom half of my screen would randomly go completely black for a few seconds. Then the top half would occassionally blank out as well. Now, the bottom half and about 2/3 of the upper half show that purple haze (with horizontal and vertical plaid-like lines). I do have about 3 inches horizontally that work...
I've read up on some other sites on potential fixes and here's the parts they replaced:
BN96-02216A (p-y buffer lower board)
BN96-02033A (p-y main board)
BN96-02034A (p-y buffer board)
I'm not sure if replacing these 3 parts will solve the problem?
Blue line running down left side of screen, sometimes a multi colored line flickering on and off right next to it.
