Laserjet M525 make lines with copy

This comes from two sources, the glass or the optics under the glass. I suspect you have already cleaned the top surface of the glass. Look at page 150 from HP on cleaning http://cdn.cnetcontent.com/df/bc/dfbc38e1-cea8-4995-879e-6ecdceb89804.pdf More involved is to remove the Scan glass, clean the underside and blow canned air at the scanner light and mirror and any lenses that are on the path. The last puff should be a general one inside from a distance of 8-12 inches to remove anything in that compartment. Have done this many timed, but it is not a general consumer repair at this point.

When copying we are getting 2 lines down one side of the copies

Only when copying? What about printing? There are a couple possible causes. The easy one to check for is to make a copy by laying your original on the glass. Now make the same copy using the automatic feeder on top. If the feeder copy has the lines but the glass copy does not then the problem is coming from the ADF scanner glass which is the thin strip of glass that is just to the right of the large main glass. If so then just clean the strip of glass with a soft cloth and some glass cleaner. Note that sometimes the stuff that might be stuck to the glass is hard to get off. If BOTH the ADF copy and the main glass copy have the lines then most likely the lines are coming from the drum unit. If you have the copier hooked up for use as a PC printer then does the print from the computer have the lines as well? Then it most definately is coming from the drum unit and you would need to replace it. If the PC prints are clean then the drum is not the cause.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Sharp AR168D won't copy

There are small mirrors on the copy lamp, wipe with a clean dry soft cloth. Remove the drum unit and wipe upper part where the drum unit was and make sure the area is clean.

Black line down page when coping from copy feed

The small glass surface at the top of the scanner bed had some gunk on it. I scrapped it off and the line went away! Yay!
