I had this problem with this camera when i had it new i would put the camera on the dock to charge and then use it then finally it wouldnt work and i realised that the camera wasnt charging. i contacted hp who i found to not be very helpful, they eventually sent me out a new battery even tho i told them i felt it wasnt the battery, of course the same thing happened with the new battery. i called them again and said i felt that there may be a loose connection in the wire going from the transformer to the dock as by messing around with it had made the light come on but as soon as i let go it went off, they agreed to send a replacement. when the replacement arrived they sent the part of the cable that plugged into mains and as such was no use, they siad they would send the right one but as yet i have not received it. =S however, by moving the wire where it plugs into the dock i have manged to get the camera to charge, it may be worth messing with the wire to see if this is the case with urs and calling for a replacement. claire xx =D

Why doesn't the lens retract when I turn off my camera or extend when I turn on my camera?
Question :
Why doesn't the lens retract when I turn off my camera or extend when I turn on my camera?
Answer :
The batteries may be low or exhausted. NOTE: If the batteries run low on power, your camera may turn off without retracting the lens. In most cases, this is normal and can be corrected by recharging the camera batteries. In the U.S. and other countries where the Step-by-Step Solutions and Repair tool is available:
Recharge the batteries or install new batteries. NOTE: Rechargeable batteries can be charged in the following ways depending on the camera:
Remove the batteries and place them in an optional battery charger.
Place the camera in a printer dock or a camera dock.
With the batteries installed, connect the camera to an AC adapter or to a computer using a USB cable.
For more information, go to KODAK Product Manuals, and select the User's Guide for your camera. To see the battery charging accessories that are available for your camera, go to KODAK Accessories.
Install new or fully charged batteries into your camera. NOTE: Rechargeable batteries can be charged in the following ways depending on the camera:

with new batterys you may find if quicker to charge them in a battery charger and not in the camera,,,the camera charger is for "topping up" the batterys realy not fully recharging them its so you can leave the camera on its docking port and it will have fully charged batterys in it when you wont to use it,, to fully charge a new set of batterys it could take days,,,,so overnight is to short a charge to recharge them,,,leave the camera on its docking station for a fuw days at least, or use a home charger for your type of battery ie:AAA or AA, both take 16 hours to recharg fully
Hi, if you are using the KLIC-5000 battery try to clean the metal contacts on the battery. Try also to remove the battery of your camera dock your camera on the docking station then turn on the camera, if the camera will not turn on it means the charging mechanism of the dock is defective. Now if the camera turns on it means the battery is defective that is why you can charged it.
Jeff, you didn't verify the type of battery that you have on your camera, is that the KLIC-5000? if yes then still it will not charged on your dock try to charged your camera using the 5V AC adapter. If your camera will not turn on using the 5V AC adapter or will not turn on using your dock it means the camera is defective and not your battery or charger. You can still contact Kodak repair center at 1 800 665 6515 they will handle your issue.
It seems that the Milli Amps on your rechargeable batteries are to low you will notice on each battery it will show the amplitude purchase a higher amplitude.
There was an issue with the 4000 series and the NiCd batteries I remember that had to do with the contacts in the camera. The charging circuit is in the camera so you have to make sure that the battery contacts are clean, both on the battery and in the camera.
It's a problem with the battery. It already reached it's life cycle. I had the same problem with my 15 month old casio camera a year ago - flashing red light on docking station. I even tried borrowing a docking station/charger to see if something else is wrong with it.
The only solution for this is to have the battery replace.
The EasyShare camera dock automatically stops charging the batteries after it registers a full charge, so it is fine to leave the EasyShare digital camera on the EasyShare camera dock for short periods. However, leaving the camera on the dock for longer periods (days or weeks) is not recommended because this can cause problems with your camera and the batteries.
Same symptoms but cleaning the battery contacts didn't help - anyone any other ideas?
