Re:
Is the TV connected to cable? Is there a cable box? Is it connected to a satellite box? How is the signal connecting to the TV - the F connector, the red, white, yellow, red,white,,s-video or component RCA jacks? If you can see the onscreen menu then it usually indicates that the TV is working fine and the problem is with the signal into the TV.
The next thing to try is to go into the TV's menu and make sure that the brightness and contrast are set normally. If those are set too low then you might have no video but the on-screen menu will work. If the brightness and contrast settings are normal but you get no picture at all, there is something wrong with the video processor circuits, and that must be repaired by a qualified tech familiar with projection TVs.The next thing to try is to go into the TV's menu and make sure that the brightness and contrast are set normally. Magic focus on a Hitachi only adjusts at 16 points on the screen and needs to be done in a dimly lit room. Frankly its a sales gimmick, the number 5 means one of the sensors inside the screen for the Magic focus is not connected or bad.
Go into the tech mode for convergence with the original remote (that menu is called the Decam mode) and see if convergence will adjust there. There are close to 120 points that can be adjusted there as opposed to less than twenty in the magic focus mode.
Power board is dead, know how to solders?Replaced those capacitors that puff up or burst open.Or buy a whole refurbish power board at Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com.
If it is totally dead, then this is likely a power supply issue. If the front panel LED comes on, but nothing else, perhaps there is a problem on the deflection board, or perhaps the convergence chips died and shut down the set.
you have lost the video, either because the vertical section or the deflection circuit stopped working. if the power supply is independent from the others circuits is going to work and the video does not
If you have Hitachi model number 50UX58B, 60UX58B, 50UX58K, 60UX58K, 50SBX78B or 60SBX78B and you have the following symptoms you may want to grab a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit that includes the parts and instructions to fix these models. This is a fairly common problem with the above model numbers. It is typically caused by a blown capacitor and pico fuse. Again, you can get a kit from the above address. Here are the symptoms...
Primary Symptom: No Audio or Video. Power light will come on briefly then shut off. Other Possible Symptoms : The green LEDs on the circuit board light up for a few seconds then turn off.
