First make sure the transformer is charging the battery. This is the old, "Is it plugged in?" question, techs are told to ask first. Feel the transformer, (the box plugged into the outlet), and see if it is warm. If it is cold, check your outlet for electricity by plugging in something you know works. If you have electricity, either test the transformer or just replace it.

Most common problem after the power supply, is the battery getting old. They need to be changed every three to five years. The battery is easily changed. Just make sure you keep the polarity (the red and black wires) the same as the one you are taking out. Should you lose the polarity, put the red on the positive terminal and the black on the negative terminal.

After replacing either the power supply or the battery, give the operator a chance to recharge the battery. About two hours should do it for a single test run. Then let it charge up overnight.

The third issue is usually the gate is hanging up on something as it is opening and triggering the reverse mechanism. These work by detecting a surge in motor voltage as the motor begins to strain against whatever is slowing it down. There is a reverse sensitivity screw (potentiometer) on the board. Turning will either increase or decrease the reversing action.

If you have had the battery for five years, change it and see if the issue goes away. You need to do this anyway. If it is less than three years, try adjusting the sensitivity screw.

Check the units for something jamming the joints which causes them to cease automatically and return to their original stance.

I close the gate in the morning but find it open when I return home from work in the evening. This does not happen at night and it does not happen every day.Last week it happened on 3 consecutive dys

Change the codes. There are usually dip switches in the remote and gate that can be switched. If it still happens, start looking at the receiver at the gate.

When I start my ignition it may click and not start it will then start on next try >I then hear a thumping noise from rear gate area I open rear gate and close and it stops and car runs fine

Clean all your cables to your starter and battery, sound like a starter solenoid issue, you may end up replacing. The thumb in the rear sounds like a bushing in the tail gate, I would inspect

My Elite Sliding Opener is not closing. It hits the the end of the gate hard and retracts back?

The Limit nuts are out of adjustment. This can be caused by the chain jumping the sprocket, usually when something gets caught in the chain or it has not been adjusted. It can also be caused by a cracked limit nut. The limit switch and nuts are located at the top of the operator (under the cover) and has a lid held on by a single screw. Loosen the screw, and remove the lid.

elite-sliding-opener-not-closing-hits-3i3gptxgjc4ofcs21h1ecra2-1-3.jpg Inside you will see two cogs on a threaded shaft with slots cut into them. These slots are there so the lever will keep the nut from spins and allow it travel down the shaft as the shaft turns. The limit nuts eventually contact the limit switch, stopping motor. Look closely at the sides of the nut to make sure there are no cracks allowing the limit nut to spread open and slip on the threaded shaft. You may have to clean them to see it.

elite-sliding-opener-not-closing-hits-3i3gptxgjc4ofcs21h1ecra2-1-6.jpg If there is a crack, usually found between the brass nut and a slot, you will need to replace the limit nut. Go ahead and do both nuts at the same time as it is a challenging process and you will want to do it only once.
If the nuts are not cracked, simply press the bar holding the nuts in place back with a screwdriver and spin the nut towards the limit switch until the gate stops about one to one and a half inches away from the post. The gate stopping point can vary even more than one and a half inches on slopes so if it starts happening again, give it even more space.

Good luck

My gate starts to open but then stops

Need more information.
Firstly, engage the manual release inside your motor and then operate gate by hand. Pay attention to any spots that are hard to push, this would indicate some sort of mechanical obstruction causing the motor to stop. Try remove obstruction.
Secondly, measure the voltage on your battery while trying to operate the gate. If your battery drops below 11.5V the control board will shut down. If so, replace battery.

Gate will not completely close.

Most likely your chain is not going to be your problem. When you pull the cover off of your SL 3000 there will be a little rectangle box on top. There is either one or 2 screws holding the lid down...loosen the screws and take the lid off. Inside there will be a long screw drive with 2 plastic nuts with teeth. At either end of the screw drive you will find a switch that one of the nuts should be resting on. (these are your limit switches that tell the motor when to stop) Run the gate open and closed...when you run it closed see if it is hitting one of the limit switches when it stops. (turn off the power) If so, hold back the plate keeping the nut in place and move the nut further away from the limit switch.(don't move it too far so that you don't slam the gate too hard into the catch post and hurt the post/gate/motor) Turn the power back on and run it again. Repete this untill the gate is stopping where you would like it too. e-mail me with any further questions [email protected]
