I have a sony dcr hc40E minidv handycam since last 3 years. recently i am facing typical problem. even if the power is off, the red light on camcorder's body for memory stick flashes. with or without the memory in, the charging light doesn't come on and charging doesn't work. battery information also does not get activated.
this problem looks like the one posted by aksh on oct, 14 2006.
I'd like to try the solution posted by x-tian on aug, 11 2007 but I don't find the "short line to the carbon wire of the function switch"

Try loosening some of the screws on the handycam, to allow you to prise open the case slighly, allowing access to the strip coming from the switch. Cut a thin piece of rubber from an eraser, and gently stroke the wire strip with it. It works!

With the firewire cable, you can use Windows Movie Maker to download videos from practically any digital camera with firewire connection (Sony called i.Link).
I had purchased the laptop with Window Vista Home Premium OS. I am unable to connect my Mini DV Sony DCR HC 40 E through firewire. the laptop doesn't recognise mini DV. Please suggest proper driver & solution
there a short line to the carbon wire of the function switch.....unfold the wire to loose the fold....and clean the contact of the wire using a pencil eraser slowly
