Computers often use shortcut links to make it easier for users to locate and open files.
These links are commonly placed in a folder easily accessible to users, such as a desktop folder.
When a shortcut is created, it is given directory information and an icon.
If the file associated with a shortcut is later moved, the shortcut may fail to locate the file.
When this problem occurs, you need to update the shortcut's directory information.
This process is often automated by operating systems, but in a some instances, you need to repair shortcuts manually

Right-click on a broken shortcut link's icon.
Select the "Properties" option. Locate the "Target" box and copy its information into your clipboard using the Ctrl and C keys.
Open the "My Computer" folder on your computer and paste the target information into the folder's address bar using the Ctrl and V keys.
If the address bar is not viewable, you may need to enable it in the folder's settings.
Find address bar options in the "View" menu under "Toolbars."
The file's target path folder will open.

Locate the file in the target path folder.
If the file is not present, the target path is inaccurate and likely the cause of the shortcut link error.
Locate the file in its correct folder.
Browse folders or search for the file by typing the file name into the "Start" menu.
After finding the file, open the properties of the shortcut link icon again.
Copy the file's correct path, from the containing folder's address bar, and paste it in to the "Target" box, replacing the incorrect link.
Another way to find a file's target path is by right clicking on the file and selecting Properties.
You can find accurate target information in the "Target" box, provided the icon is the original file icon and not a shortcut.

To put a shortcut on your desktop
Method 1 loadTOCNode(3, 'moreinformation');
  1. Right-click an open area on the desktop, point to New, and then click Shortcut.
  2. Click Browse.
  3. Locate the program or file to which you want to create a shortcut, click the program or file, click Open, and then click Next.
  4. Type a name for the shortcut. If a Finish button appears at the bottom of the dialog box, click it. If a Next button appears at the bottom of the dialog box, click it, click the icon you want to use for the shortcut, and then click Finish.
Method 2 loadTOCNode(3, 'moreinformation');
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then right-click the program you want to create the shortcut to.
  2. Click Create Shortcut.
  3. The shortcut is now at the end of the Programs list. For example, if you created a shortcut to Microsoft Word, to find that program, click Start, and then point to Programs. You will find the shortcut, named "Microsoft Word (2)" (without the quotation marks), at the bottom of the Program list.
  4. Drag the shortcut to the Desktop.

Every time I try to boot up print artist platinum edition it says Print Artist Platinum has encountered a problem and needs to close. What do I need to do to fix the problem?

My parents ran into this same issue this afternoon. After a bunch of trial and error over the phone, here's the solution:

1. Go to the Start Menu and open Computer (used to be called My Computer).
2. Browse to c:\Program Files (x86)\Nova\Print Artist Platinum
3. Right-click on Print Artist.exe and create a shortcut
4. Drag the shortcut to the desktop
5. Double-click on the new shortcut to start the application.
6. Delete the non-working shortcut.

Since I was working with my parents over the phone, some of the file names may be slightly incorrect. However, this should be close enough to get you working.

I try clicking on the application and it won't respond

Hello,

Start-->All Programs->Your application. If it works, create a new shortcut on desktop. If it does not work, the application has been uninstalled, or it folder has been displaced.

You can use Add/Remove program in control panel to verify if it is still installed.

To create shortcut, point mouse cursor in a free area, Right Click >>New>>Short Cut. Click the submenu. A create shortcut window appears and you use the browse button to travel to the application folder in Programs Files, and select the executable file (has an extension .exe) and click OK.

Hope it helps

My problem is with MS Photo Editor bundled with Office: I can no no longer run it in a ''normal'' sized window. When I use it to open a JPEG, it starts out minimized, and R-clicking on the taskbar icon and...

Try this:

Find the MS photo program on your hard drive (I believe, but am not sure, it is located here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Photo Editor.Exe Create a shortcut (right click on Photo Editor.exe and choose create shortcut) to the program. Then, after the shortcut is created, RIGHT click on the shortcut and click on properties. In the properties windows that pops up, find "run probram MAXIMIXED and make sure that is checked." then, click on OK a couple of times until you can see the "shortcut to photo editor.exe" shortcut. Double-click on that shortcut, which should start photo editor maximized.

Woo Hoo.

Now close photo editor.

Hopefully from this point on every time you open photo editor it will open maximized because you have just tweaked the registry to do so...

Take care,
Rob

Thank you for contacting Acer America. I apologize for the inconvenience that you have experienced. I suggest you try reinstalling the software and driver for the OrbiCam. I am providing these instructions below.

1. Move your mouse over the Empowering technology widget and click on the eRecovery Manager icon or you may also press ALT and F10 on the keyboard to start the program. Please note: The first time you access the eRecovery feature, you are prompted to create a password. If you forget it then you will have to use the recovery discs to reformat the system.
2. In the next window look at the bottom of the window and choose Restore.
3. Now choose Reinstall Applications/Drivers
4. Choose Install
5. Click on Windows Vista on the left side of the page
6. Choose Applications and then choose CCD. It may also be under Camera in the drivers section.
7. On the right click the install link and follow the prompts.
8. The system may restart when installation is complete
Do not allow the system to shut down during this process. Plug in the AC adapter if necessary.

Respectfully,

I have a problem making a shortcut on my desktop for some of programs. They come up but when I click them, nothing happens.

How are you creating the shortcut? If you right click on your desktop and click on New -> Shortcut, then tell it where the actual program is located, it should work everytime. A simpler solution is to find the program in your start menu and simply right click and drag it onto the desktop then choose to create a shortcut here.
