With a DVD disc inserted in your PS2, press the Select button to bring up the on-screen Control Panel. Press the X button to select the Setup icon. Use the directional pad to reach the "Custom Setup" menu, and press the X button. Move to "Parental Control" and select with the X button. A window will appear asking you to enter a four-digit password. Enter your choice of password using the number buttons that appear then enter it again for confirmation. You're now able to set the Parental Control level using the "Region" and "Level" options, and change your password

Forgot my parental code for my ps2 how can i

  1. Bring up a screen where the unit asks you to enter in the parental code. You can either insert a restricted disc, or enter the DVD setup menu and go to "parental control" under GA_googleFillSlot("TL-IMU-Article"); custom setup.
  2. When the screen asks for the code, press the SELECT button, then enter in the code "7444".
  3. The level adjustment under Parental Control dictates the strictness of the player. The lower the value, the more strict it will be. Either increase the value to lower the restriction, or disable the lock entirely by setting it to "off".
  4. Once you have made your adjustments, be sure that the DVD tray is empty, and press the RESET button on the front of the Playstation 2. It is imperative the tray is clear of any DVD or game for the unit to save your settings.

(not including the models with an 'R' after the model #.

these models need the following to play DVDs:
- PS2 DVD remote with IR unit
- PS2 DVD disc player (sold with DVD remote w/ IR unit)
- PS2 memory card

you copied the DVD disc to the memory card. you used the memory card to play DVDs.

later models didn't need the memory card to play DVDs.

PS2 Modded Trouble Reading DVDr's

Your DVD potentiometer pot on the back of the PS2 laser lens needs to be readjusted. Some people will try to tell you it's out of alignment but if that was the case it would not read CD's. Some people will try to tell you the laser lens is bad. If that was the case it would not read CD's. On the back of the laser lens are two potentiometer pots. In english? Two lil screws that are turnable. One controls the power of the DVD laser one controls the power of the CD laser.

http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/laserV9.htm

That link will give you pretty lil pictures of what i'm talking about :)

In a nut shell the story goes like this folks. If your PS2 won't read certain game DVD's that are of a certain color or if it all of a sudden mysteriously fails to read games it once read but will play cd's just fine, the voltage of the laser for DVD's is not set correctly. (this does needs manual tweeking from time to time if you take your ps2 and move it around alot or if you take it over to friends houses etc etc. Basicly alot of movment in general can take this out of alignment. Even keeping the PS2 on it's side could theoreticly (just my opinion) based on gravitational pull, unbalance the potentiometer.

RESOLUTION:

Step 1 identify your PS2 version:

Version 1 - SCPH-30001, 10 screws on bottom of case, serial no. starts with "U1"
Version 2 - SCPH-30001, 10 screws on bottom of case, serial no. starts with "U0"
Version 3 - SCPH-30001, 10 screws on bottom of case, serial no. starts with "U2"
Version 4 - SCPH-30000, 30001, 35001, 30002, 35002, 30003, 35003, 30004, or 35004, 8 screws on bottom of case

NOTE: Version 4 has 2 varieties of motherboard: Gap/No Gap, the difference between v4 "Gap" and v4 "No Gap" is the "Gap" is there's a spot in the center of bios chip where each side lacks solder points.

Version 5 - SCPH-30000R, 30001R, 30002R, 30003R, 30004R, or 30006R. Also, some SCPH-30000, 30001, 30002, 30003, and 30004 models have a V5/V6

NOTE: Version 5 & 6 - the difference between these two versions is one of the connectors in the corner.

Version 7 - SCPH-39000, 39001, 39002, 39003, 39004, 39008 or 37000
Version 8 - Only in Japanese consoles. SCPH-39000, or, SCPH-39006 (GH-022 BIOS 090)
Version 9 - if you have SCPH-50000, 50001, 50002, 50003, 50004, 50006, or 50007 you have a v9 or v10 board.
Version 10 - SCPH-5000x, with date code "3D" to the right and below the serial number on the back of the console. (GH-026 board)

NOTE: To know if its a v9/v10 start up PS2 with no game in it ,press triangle and check dvd driver version dvd ver 3.00 = v9 & dvd ver 3.02 = v10.

If your model # is SCPH-50000, 50001, 50002, 50003 or 50004 AND if you can find a small ''a'' under the SCPH number or have DATECODE "3C" you have a V9 PS2 main board. (GH-026 board).

If your model # is SCPH-50000, 50001, 50002, 50003 or 50004 AND if you can find DATE CODE "3D" as shown below, you have a V10 PS2 main board. (GH-026 board).

Version 12 - The new slimline PS2 consoles are referred to as PSTwo here, but elsewhere they are also known as "v12" units... their numbers are SCPH-70011/SCPH-70012, and also SCPH-70004 CB (Belgium).

Step 2 use either google or the link above. If you're using google your keyword search will be something like "ps2 v12 laser lens adjustment" *replace v12 with your ps2 model.

In either case navigate to the site and follow instructions to set the pots back to their factory default settings.

Parental Control Feature on the PS2

3 answers for the price of one. Start a DVD, bring up the menu with select, and then go to Setup. It's in there. To get it to actually save, eject and take out the DVD (kicking it back to the setup screen) before you turn the power off when you are watching any dvd, hit select on the controller to bring up the onscreen menu. on the menu, under the number 7, there is a icon called setup. click it. hit right on the digital pad (on the controller) two times and you will be at custom setup. now, go down to the parental controll part and set it up to your liking. While in the "custom settings/parental control" options press SELECT and enter the 4-digit number "7444" whenever the parental control display asks you for your password. the old password will then be deleted.
