Loud noise from Fan and compressor

My Samsung RS253BAVQ fridge has suddenly started making a loud noise in the last week or so. I can hear the fan (much loder than it used to be) and everytime the compressor turns on, it is very loud. What could be causing this all of a sudden? Also, how do I defrost the fridge? Just turn power off?

I have the same problem with mine. I took the back cover off at the bottom and the fan was going. get a scredriver and barely touch the center of the fan while it is on and if it stops making the noise then it is the fan motor. The bearings are getting ready to go out and it needs to be replaced.

Loud humming noise

Happens when the bearings in the fan or compressor motor are getting worn out. make sure there isn't a piece of cardboard cowling or debris hitting the fan.

My samsung fridge/freezer is only 3 years old, just started making loud noise, then when the fridge is opened sounds like the fan making a loud noise that goes down and stops. Then not long after that...

Compressors usually make a thrumming/humming noise, so yes, this sounds like the fan. It could be something touching the fan blades, like ice or a wire. If you can unplug the fridge and remove panels near the fan, you may discover the problem.

My fridgedaire cannot initiate compressor

Possible start kit bad or compressor. Make sure condensor fan motor working. if not replace it. if ok replace start kit and if still a problem you can bet it is the compressor.

Fridge making loud screeching sounds

Generally, in my experience, the loud screeching is caused by one of the fan motors or fan blades. There is a fan inside the cabinet (possiblle two, one on the freezer and one on the refrigerator side). Also, there is a fan underneath the unit near the compressor (probably in the back).

If the screeching is coming from underneath then pull the unit out from the wall and remove the cardboard cover at the bottom back. Now turn the unit on and check for where the screeching is coming from.

If it is the fan blade (hitting something) or the motor, you can remove these and replace them easily. UNPLUG THE REFRIGERATOR BEFORE TOUCHING ANYTHING UNDERNEATH THE BACK OF THE REFRIGERATOR.)

Good Luck!

There is a loud noise coming from the back of the refridgerator

There is a fan at the back which could be hitting something. You would hear the noise nearly continuously. There is a compressor motor at the back. If you hear the noise just when the compressor starts and stops That's usually mounts inside the compressor. It could still last awhile so if you can put up with the noise just wait for it to quit before replacing the compressor or getting a new fridge.
You may have a motherboard on the back which can make noise. You'll need to roll the unit out from the wall to see where the noise is coming from and remove part of the cardboard backing to get access to the compressor and fan.

Fan started making noise

I have one of these, and every so often, the fan would start making a loud clicking noise. I discovered that if I shut the fridge off for a while and left the door open to defrost it, it'd work fine again for a while before the noise came back. Apparently, some ice was building up between the metal heat-sink and the fan, causing the fan blades to scrape against the ice/frost build-up and make the "tick, tick tick" noise.
There is no compressor in the Avanti EC15W-2 mini fridge. It uses a simple Peltier junction device to transfer heat from the inside of the fridge to the outside/rear of the unit. So it should never get very loud at all, unless one of the two fans in it is acting up in some way.

Noise (more detail)

I think I answered this in an earlier post.

The noise is the fan banging against the motor housing. It's not a defective motor, it's a poorly designed motor.

The solution is to shim the motor mount so it is slightly out of level which will keep the fan from bouncing off the motor housing.

The reason Samsung won't service is they don't understand the problem. I've seen this a half-dozen times.

Trust me -- SHIM THE MOTOR MOUNT!
