Windows XP/Vista/7 operating systems have the driver for all disc drives build in. If it isn't working, then the driver is not your problem.

Depending on which version of windows you are using, you might need to install the drivers for the device.

I know XP and older versions have a mush smaller internal driver database than windows vista or windows 7.

You don't necessarily need to install software to operate the device, just need the driver installed, then your computer will recognize the device.

Have the same dvd burner. In Windows xp pro, it finds it automatically. make sure the jumpers are set correctly. Iif you are using a different operating system, let me know.

email me and i will send the driver in an attachment file.please not though that the hp 740i burner is an internal I D E supported drive not a USB. as long as its a 740 model the driver should work, wether its usb or ide is up to the computer to associate it with.

You could take the drive out of the encloser and hook it up. There could be a flaw in the enclouser ive had that happen before to me. I just took it out and put it in standard if this dosent work then there is a flaw in the dvd burner

No, You should start up pc and after it is to the desktop just plug it into a usb port. Windows should recognize and either load software or ask for disc. Usb devices has to be plugged in or removed live. That is while the computer is running.

first connect it to the computer. if it doesnt recognize restart your computer. if it presist replace usb cord.


be sure that you have driver for your dvd writer.
