No audio Everything works on my DAV S300 but for one thing. There is absolutely no sound to the speakers not even the test tone. All of the front panel indicators are ok and the disc tray works fine. It just acts like it is on mute but it is not. Failed after not being used for three months while we were away.I do hear the audio at the phono jacks. I took the cover off and all of the fuses look ok and there is no visible indication.
Another guest - and I also have this same problem. I can get the audio working through the TV, but the surround speakers I get nothing (not even the test tone). ANY IDEA'S WOULD BE APPRECIATED.Another guest - and I also have this same problem. I can get the audio working through the TV, but the surround speakers I get nothing (not even the test tone). Sony DAV-S300 !!! Sound Problem !!! Same Problem like by Willly ..., ...Polkared ...etc The Box working COMPLETELY(Display,DVD,AUX's,TUNER,SETTINGS -Sound Field ,HEAD-PHONE) OK!!
BUT !!! just the sound switch OFF and ON,sometimes. and when is no sound then the SOUND CHECK is not working too ( Normal) Now my box is in pieces, and I try to find out where is the Problem. Its seems to be a protection ( I don't know - OVERHEAT , OVERLOAD ... ) If somebody want the SM just write a Comment

Sounds like willy's problem is exactly the same as mine. Works at the headphone socket, but no sound otherwise (though haven't tried the phono out on the back)
Another thing I have noticed is that it no longer makes the noise that sounds like a relay click when switching on.
I have checked all the speaker connections, MUTING is not on, and the test tone can not be heard. The loss of sound affects all functions (DVD, CD, tuner). It's as if the surround sound amp is not being powered up.
I have opened up the box and checked continuity through any internal fuses - all seem fine. Didn't see anything suspicious in there.

Same problem...no surround. No test tone. Audio through TV fine. Same problem...no surround. No test tone. Audio through TV fine.
It was great until the sound stopped working - I have no output to the speakers all of a sudden after 1.5 years of casual use. Now all I can do is plug headphones in when I want to watch a movie. I don't know enough to diagnose it as a blown amplifier, shorted circuit or what - I just know there isn't any output to the speakers. Make sure you have the correct input selected and MUTING is not on.
If the product is protecting itself disconnect all but one front speaker and see how that works out. If it starts working you need to isolate which one is/was the problem.
Sounds like you may have a problem with the wires themselves. Perhaps you could sacrifice just a little integrity (literally not enough to notice) by simply tying into the center speaker with the right front wires. That way, at least they're all working.
i have the same problem with my sony receiver. seems like the fronts and sub have no output after sitting idle for about one and a half years. center and rears are ok. any help folks?
The calibration mic thing is to balance the sound evenly on surround sound systems, it replacles the older systems "TEST TONE" speaker setup, in other words it will balance each speaker say in a 5.1 setup to adjust the level output so the listening position is not overwhemled by say the rear surround speaker overriding the front left & right speaker or the most critical the center speaker. The calibration mic uses computer tech to make it easier for the user, no sound pressure calibration is needed as with the test tone setup mentioned earlier. The wireless speaker situation could be possibly waiting for the calibration confirmation, Read any user manual information if available.
Is it under warranty? Have you checked the manual for troubleshooting hints? Can you bring in another device to try ( is there an AUX setting/plug in back)?
Same exact problem. No clue what the solution is, though.
