Whirlpool microwave only cooks for limited time?

Built in Whirlpool MT 784/IX, light / turntable etc seems fine. Will cook for short periods, maybe 1 minute, then seems to stop cooking...although the turntable /light / timer continues as normal.
What is the easiest option.....Take out for repair? OR....Find a replacement that fits / appears similar.
Many thanks,

It's possible that the module that produces the microwaves is failing. The parts are cheaper but the labor may not so get an estimate before deciding if it's worth repairing or replacing.

If you mean by "races" that the coooking time goes way too fast, then you may just need to reset the microwave. This is usually done by unplugging the microwave for several minutes then plugging it back in. You can also visit http://www.whirpool.com or call 1-866-698-2538 to speak with customer service. If that doesn't fix it, chances are that the integrated circuit (chip) is corrupted. Whirlpool doesn't make the chips available, so the whole control board (they may call it the "clock") would need to be replaced. If the time count sems correct, it's also possible that a sensor is bad, or maybe yopu have a bad door switch. You can do a Yahoo search for my file "doorsw.txt" to help you with the safety tips and disgnosis of door switch problems.

SOURCE: Maytag Rangehood Microwave Loud Humming

Sounds like you just fried your magnetron. Normally when they go bad, they make a very loud noise like what you described. The smell concerns me because you may have ruined the waveguide as well. If the magnetron burns through the protective painted surface of the waveguide, the waveguide is ruined. In most microwave ovens this means replacing the entire unit because the waveguide is not replaceable. Putting a new magnetron in a damaged waveguide will result in the same arcing and eventual failure. In addition to the magnetron, the following components are part of the same high voltage network: HV Transformer HV Diode HV Capacitor Magnetron Thermal Cut-Out Any one of these components could have also been damaged. I DO NOT recommend taking any voltage measurements inside the HV network. Potentials of over 4000 volts can be reached and make it very dangerous for the do-it-yourselfer. Taking resistance readings with the unit unplugged is strongly encouraged. If you decide to pursue a repair, inspect the magnetron tip and inside of the waveguide first. If the magnetron is melted and/or there are burn marks inside the waveguide, a new microwave may be a in order. This actually may be a better option than an expensive repair. I hope you find this advice helpful.

SOURCE: sANYO EM-D9550. Turntable turns when off but not when cooking.

That's sounds pretty strange!

Since I don't have any service data on Sanyos, I'd have to speculate.

I would guess that one scenario that could cause it would be if the turntable were turned off via the control panel, but there was a switch or switch mount problem.

I would refer you to their support people:

SOURCE: Microwave turns on, but no heat or turntable movement

The problem is that the magnatron is not getting power. Chance is that if could be a bolwn fuse inside the unit. If the fuse don't fix it then that leaves the charging diode, capacitor or the magnatron, or high voltage xformer of which without technical epertize I would not recomend attempting to replace. good luck

New whirlpool microwave model WMH53521HZ-4, if I enter the wrong length of time on the cook time how do I clear it and enter a different time? On my previous microwave there was a clear/reset button.

On this microwave, you just need to enter the correct cooking time and power level. This will clear the previous time and power level that you entered. (This works since you need to use the Options button to do multi-stage cooking.)

The manual for the Whirlpool WMH53521HZ is available on the product site: https://www.whirlpool.com/kitchen/cooking/microwaves/over-the-range/p.2.1-cu.-ft.-over-the-range-microwave-with-steam-cooking.wmh53521hz.html . Scroll down to the Manuals & Guides section or use the link and expand the section. The current link to the manual is https://www.whirlpool.com/content/dam/global/documents/201705/UserGuide-W11047549-RevA.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Ikea microvave turntable motor not working

That could very well be an issue with the power supply. The chances on a relay failing on the DPDT switch side are very rare. Something is not telling the relay to close.

The door open/close some microswitches. During the cooking process they became greasy and working bad. You must replace them or if you're a skilled man, wash them.

Seems to cook okay, but its getting louder. What can I do?

If the sound is coming from the magnetron "heats food" it indicates failure within a short period of time. The only thing you can do is call an appliance repairman to check the oven out and verify the problem and cost.

Whirlpool Roper Microwave MHE14XMB turntable stops turning

Hello :

The turntable has a separate motor under the unit(inside) that is quite small..... They just do go out from time to time..!!!!! Just remember to set the timer for shorter periods of time on items that require long cook times and turn it around the other way . Repairing is a bit expensive . You can ask first .

good luck .

Whirlpool vt255 microwave does not stop

If your microwave oven doesn't appear to shut off when the door is open, you may have a problem with the door switch. The door switches, often referred to as interlock switches, provide power to the various components of the microwave. They are designed to interrupt the power when the door is open.

Everything works except the cooking part/no heating/turntable not turning, help!

you may have gotten a power surge and that can cause some funny things to happen, 1st is there power to the oven, 2nd if so there may be an internal fuse protector built in to the oven, check with the manual for anything of that sort listed. if not you may have to take it in and have it repaired by a pro. there is a lot of voltage in these ovens and unless you know what you are doing a person could get hurt

Whirlpool Microwave excessive grease build up

First you should be sure the ventilation is correct through the oven.

If you don't feel air through the vents when it's running, that needs to be addressed.

Also, it's important to wipe off the interior surfaces whenever moisture seems to be accumulating.

Also, it's recommended to leave the door open a few minutes after cooking to allow it to dry.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you need more help.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
