My manual, which is for 870cxi - not 960C - says to "remove in/out tray by using removal latch underneath tray." That isn't on the 960C - and I can't get to scrap of paper peeking from cartridge railing area. When I turn on printer, scary loud noises begin.
I'd be happy to type out the instructions on removing the paper underneath the tray, but this link from HP gives you step by step graphics on how to fix it properly. Hi, please try this:
1. Remove
all media from the output tray.
2. Check
the duplexer.
a. Push the button on either side of the duplexer, and then remove the panel or unit.
b.
Locate any jammed media inside the device, grasp it with both hands and then pull
it towards you.
c.
If the jam is not there, push the latch on the top of the duplexer and lower
its cover. If the jam is inside, carefully remove it. Close the cover.
d.
Reinsert the duplexer into the device.
3. Open
the top cover and remove any debris.
4. If
you have not found the jam and have Tray 2 installed, pull out the tray and remove
the jammed media, if possible. If not, do the following:
a.
Ensure the device is turned off and disconnect the power cord.
b.
Lift the device off Tray 2.
c.
Remove the jammed media from the bottom of the device or from Tray 2.
d.
Reposition the device on top of Tray 2.
5. Open
the print carriage access door. If there is paper remaining inside the device, ensure
the carriage has moved to the right of the device, free any paper scraps or wrinkled
media, and pull the media towards you through the top of the device.
6. After clearing the jam, close all covers, turn on the device (if you turned it off) and resend the print job.
Caution
Do not stand the machine on end. Ink may leak from the machine.
The PE Actuator looks like a 2 prong fork or tuning fork and is
located near the rear center of the machine where the paper tray slides
in. It is located between the 2 gray rollers.
4.
Turn
the machine around and open the Jam Clear Cover (1). Look inside the machine and
remove any jammed paper. Then close the Jam Clear Cover (1).
5.
After removing all of the paper scraps, Close the scanner cover by lifting the
scanner cover to release the lock. Gently push the green scanner cover support
down and then close the cover.
6.
Remove the paper tray from the machine.
7.
Place one of your hands under the LCD unit and into the opening of where the
paper tray was.
8.
Using your hand, lift the front of the machine approximately 6 inches off the
surface.
9.
Look inside the tray areas roof of the machine and you should see a row of black
rollers. See picture below.
10.
Look in-between each of the black rollers for a piece of stuck scrap
paper. (A flash light may need to be used if you are having trouble
locating the paper scrap).
11.
Using a pair of tweezers, the paper scrap can be easily removed from the exit
rollers.
12.
Place the machine gently down onto the surface. -
If paper scraps were found and removed from the machine, continue to
STEP
13. - If no paper scraps
were found inside the machine, the paper in the tray may be causing the issue.
If the paper is slightly curled, the print head will
catch the edge of the paper and tear it. To resolve the issue, the paper
must be replaced.
-
If you do not have replacement paper, follow the rest of this solution,
after you have replaced the paper.
-
If you replaced the paper, continue to STEP
13.
13.
Put the paper tray back into the machine.
The message Paper Jam may
appear on the display if the Brother machine is not feeding paper
correctly, paper scraps have become stuck in the print head path, the
paper is not loaded properly in the paper tray, the jam clear cover
located in the back of the machine, is not installed properly or the PE
Actuator is missing or damaged.
